I’m wondering how others have had such different experiences from mine. Taco Flats has my favorite tacos in town and they’re priced totally fairly for the size and amazing quality! Every time I’ve been I’ve left happy and full; I crave the El Hippie and TF Orignal all the time. Any time we have friends visiting I suggest coming here to get the best tacos in Austin!

I've eaten here dozens of times and have never had a bad meal. The queso is always delicious. Breakfast/brunch options are great. People complain about the price on the tacos but the tacos are huge and tasty. The quesadilla is very reasonably priced for how much food you get. Honestly shocked to see so many people flocking to put down a good restaurant for completely inconsequential reasons, even leaving one star reviews after loving the food and service. Y'all need to get a hobby if hurting peoples' (genuinely good) restaurants on Yelp brings you joy.

I ordered the el hippie taco and the guacamole. The guacamole was very bland, but the chips were good. The el hippie taco had an entire clove of garlic in it, not diced, or crushed. Completely whole. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he told me it was part of the recipe for the escabeche. Which when I looked it up, escabecha is a fish dish, not a taco topping, and I'm vegetarian.After deciding the taco was not worth finishing, I decided to start eating the guac again. I scooped some on a chip and pulled out a hair from the middle of the guac clump. I told the waiter, and he took it off my bill, after asking if I would prefer a fresh new guac instead. After this experience, I declined and just requested a refund, not knowing what I would find in my next dish.

Mediocre, overpriced food with VERY poor service. I've been going to Taco Flats (previously a delicious Zocalo) about twice a week for years since it is by my house and between the dog park and my house. It is purely for convenience because the food frequently tastes like reheated left overs and is way over priced. That said, Taco Flats is between my house and our local dog park so it is very convenient. Today I did my usual, called in my order from the dog park, when I rcv'd a text it was ready, we went over and I tethered my TRAINED, LICENSED SERVICE DOG in a shady spot by the windows while I ran it in get my food. Outside seating is for 50+ and there were FOUR people sitting outside nowhere near my dog. I was approached my MADISON the waitress who is also an expert in dog care who explained to me how unsafe it was to tether my dog in the shady spot I have done dozens to times previously. I pointed out that I had a to go order that was ready and that there were two other dogs, larger than mine tethered in EXACTLY the same manner outside. She then told me for safety she would need to check me out outside because I could not get takeout with my TRAINED, LICENSED SERVICE DOG outside. I've paid the ridiculously over priced fare here for years and suffered through the, at times, inedible food but this was just so unnecessary. Why treat customers in the condescending manner? So rude and the straw that broke the camels back - I will not return.
Boy, I hate to leave bad reviews. I think I do it more to let the owner and staff know. Hey, you gotta tighten up your shop. I’ll agree with the other reviews. The servers are all standing around talking to another, and also sitting at the tables texting. Come on. And of course the bartender was hanging out with her boyfriend. Absolutely unacceptable! That alone is reason enough not to bother coming back.The fish taco wasn’t bad, but I’ll just say it was underwhelming at any price. I had the shrimp ceviche, it was basically shrimp and some type of lemon water sauce. It was difficult to eat. Do yourselves a favor go to good restaurant and taste some real ceviche. What you’re serving isn’t even close, and you’re wasting some good shrimp!Sadly I won’t be going back. Best of luck. Hopefully you guys can make some positive changes and serve some great food.

If you are seeking tacos in Austin, look elsewhere. I tasted the fish and chicken tacos, and they were both extremely dry. Chicken tasted at least a day old and was like sawdust.Servers seemed confused, and there were large delays in food coming out. I am not one to complain often regarding food, but this one missed the mark.

I find this place to be over priced. $18 for queso and guacamole and it isn't even served in a real bowl. Everything is served in plastic or paper. Seating is uncomfortable. I hope the servers get paid well because they are saving a ton being so cheap and charging so much. Our waitress was sweet. Also, there a million places to get excellent tacos. This place is not doing anything special at all.
