This is an old Austin staple and it shows. Everything is great, the service, price and food are awesome. The atmosphere is fun and old at the same time. The chili is just GREAT!! Have it on ANYTHING they serve. The queso with meat is wonderful. Have lunch or dinner. They are not open for bkfast.

Great dive bar hard by the Texas State capitol building; one imagines that all manner of disastrous legislative deals have been made here over the years over a bowl of the red and a Lone Star. I had the red over the cheese enchiladas-- simple, tender meaty chunks-- no beans because Texas (though the bean and meat option is available)-- and the combination is Tex-Mex chili perfection. Austin has scores of fancy restaurants and a profusion of BBQ joints you dream about, but a perfect bowl of red in the unbeatable atmosphere of the Texas Chili Parlor is right up there on the list of must-visit destinations. Great friendly and highly entertaining service to boot. 10 stars out of 5.

An absolute classic! An Austin institution that's an old-timey TX dive bar that also happens to serve excellent chili. The original bowl o' red is the best but some of the others are tasty and unique (venison, pork & white bean, etc.).

This basically is a dive bar but it is the best!!! Service was quick and attentive, My husband and I had a couple of froz Marguerite's delicious ! My husband had a bacon cheeseburger which was hugh ! He had a sampler chili , ate every bite I had the wagyu cheeseburger - also Hugh and perfectly cooked Everything was great !!! And cheap !!! 4 margaritas with grand marnier floaters and the food and 20 dollar tip came to 100 Yummy
True Austin. One of my favorite spots to eat in Austin, TX. The burgers, Mexican food and the chili are my favorites. The Mad Dog Margarita, made with Mescal is my go-to beverage: absolutely delicious.Parking: There is metered parking either across the street (Lavaca) or if you drive around the block behind the restaurant one can find metered parking there as well. Patience is a must.
