Great dive bar hard by the Texas State capitol building; one imagines that all manner of disastrous legislative deals have been made here over the years over a bowl of the red and a Lone Star. I had the red over the cheese enchiladas-- simple, tender meaty chunks-- no beans because Texas (though the bean and meat option is available)-- and the combination is Tex-Mex chili perfection. An absolute classic! An Austin institution that's an old-timey TX dive bar that also happens to serve excellent chili. The original bowl o' red is the best but some of the others are tasty and unique (venison, pork & white bean, etc.).

This is an old Austin staple and it shows. Everything is great, the service, price and food are awesome. The atmosphere is fun and old at the same time. The chili is just GREAT!! Have it on ANYTHING they serve. The queso with meat is wonderful. Have lunch or dinner. They are not open for bkfast.
