The Local Reviews
I want to give a shout out to a wonderful new restaurant here in South Austin, specifically the Brodie/Slaughter area. It's called The Local, and it's a delight.
The decor is warm and inviting--no chrome or glass and no tvs blaring sports. We were pleased to see that the place was busy at 7 on a Tuesday, it's such a welcoming sound.
The food was perfectly prepared and artfully presented, simple, no frufru. The service was terrific, sharp, prompt and helpful.

The Local is a neighborhood gem in south Austin, offering high-quality drinks and amazing food in a friendly and laid-back atmosphere. The staff is delightful, and the presentation of dishes is impressive. Vegetarian options include the grain bowl, avocado toast, and sweet potato toast. This comfortable spot feels like a small town restaurant, making it a great addition to the local community. Guests have enjoyed the Mimosa for brunch and praised the Early Cure cocktail, which combines earl grey tea, gin, honey, and lemon. The Good Day Breakfast has been a hit, and the Biscuit Sandwich with berry compote has received positive remarks for its flavor. Many appreciate the small but satisfying portions, and the herb fries with local dip have been called perfectly crispy and addictively good. Drinks like "You're on a Pip," a gin-based cocktail with orange liqueur, and the classic Old Fashioned are also favorites. The atmosphere is quiet, modern, and jazzy, with incredibly fresh, flavorful food. The strawberry salad and midday breakfast are standout dishes that guests would happily order again. Brunch offers great options for drinks, appetizers, and entrees, including the Breakfast Sammie on a potato bun with house sausage and herb fries, and the build-your-own plate with biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs, and sugar bacon, providing a good ole fashioned southern style brunch. The decor has an old-fashioned early 1900s feel, with a large bar and all indoor seating. Overall, The Local is celebrated for its unbeatable happy hour prices, delicious offerings, and amazing service, making it a must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike. Parking is easy, and the ambiance is cozy and inviting.
