We used to come here all the time. Today was a disappointment. Menu was small and nothing on the menu was appealing to me. I ordered pretzel bites and chips for dinner. Literally drove over an hour to come. Only thing great and relaxing was the live band.

While a friend and myself stopped in for lunch,Our orders were a dollar apart on the menu,he wound up paying half price while I paid full price for my meal plus my drink ,but none the less, the drink because I had diet soda while he had water, care to explain?

**★☆☆☆☆ Absolutely Horrible – Avoid at All Costs**

Breakwater Cafe is hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. If you're thinking of stopping here—DONT! Turn around and save yourself the frustration, the attitude, and quite possibly food poisoning.

Let’s start with the Service, or rather, the complete lack of it. The place claims to have “open seating,” which sounds like it should be convenient—but here's the catch: nobody actually comes to take your order. You sit down, wait, and eventually a scowling waitress will saunter over just to tell you, “You know you have to go outside and order at the bar.” No sign, no explanation, just a side of condescension with your confusion. It’s ridiculous.

And let’s talk about that bar—it’s outside. In the blazing heat. So now you're sweating in line to order food from a place that clearly couldn’t care less about your comfort or your time.

As for the staff, they’re shockingly rude. Eye rolls, sarcastic tone, zero hospitality. It's like you’re inconveniencing them just by showing up. They act like they’re doing you a favor by even acknowledging your existence. I don’t know who trained them—or if anyone even bothered—but they’re some of the most unprofessional people I’ve ever encountered in the service industry.

All in all, Breakwater Cafe is a total joke. Bad service, rude staff, awful food, and a setup that makes no sense. If you value your time, your money, and your health—**stay far away.**

Unwelcome feeling. Stares as if questioning why we're there. O felt like we should leave and eat elsewhere. Staff showed some attention but seemed reluctant. Not a welcome feeling.

Casual dining you order at the bar. I don’t have any issues with the service. And the burger was good . Only issue was all the mosquitos

Came across this place after our drive from New Braunfels and decided we could stop in for a nice cold margarita and enjoy the view! I was so excited because I looked up the place before we went in and saw some pictures. Definitely looked great and refreshing. Walked into the Cantina straight to the bar. Stood there still excited because with the New Braunfels heat and humidity a cold margarita would have been perfect! The bar tenders/waitresses walked up to the bar, made eye contact, and were making orders for others (understandable) so we waited and waited. Realized if you sit down they go up to you. Cool! We picked a spot with a view of the Marina area and again waited waited waited and even waited some more. But guess what..........NOTHING. They walked up and down and all around and not one person asked us if we needed service but helped everyone else around us. They saw us and passed us up NUMEROUS times. We eventually got tired of waiting and decided screw this place! Sucks to say and or think but was it because we didn't look like everyone else there!? 🤔 I guess we'll never know and or be able to review the nice cold margarita that I thought I was going to enjoy on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thanks though! 9/29/2025 between 2pm-3pm

Great day enjoying friends, food and drinks by the water. Ceviche was delicious, as was the queso and guacamole. I will be back.

The service here is dreadful and the menu is stale and small. You can often sit for 10+ minutes just waiting for someone to come up and offer you water. Your bar sales and table turns are killed because of your shitty service.

My wife and I stopped into Breakwater Grill & Cantina after I wrapped up a job, and I’ve got to say—it was one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. I ordered the queso burger with fries and ceviche, and every bite was outstanding. The burger was juicy and flavorful, the fries were perfectly seasoned, and the ceviche was fresh and packed with flavor.

My wife went with the buffalo chicken sandwich, and she loved it—crispy, spicy, and absolutely delicious.

On top of the great food, the service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and quick. And to make it even better, the views from the restaurant were beautiful, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend Breakwater Grill & Cantina if you’re looking for amazing food, great service, and a perfect spot to relax.

Here at canyon for a birthday weekend and we ended up here for lunch. We walk up it was self seating , which is ok. We found a table sat there for about 15 min, someone finally came and told us they would bring menus over, another 12 min later she comes back we asked for drinks. Those took another 10 min and my drink order was wrong so it sat here watering down. Waitress said she would bring me another. After waiting a while I walked myself over to the bar to get a new drink made cause mine was watered down. Bartender tells me they are short staffed.. I came back to my table waited again. Meanwhile we are watching waitstaff confused on what orders go to what table. Literally like chickens with their heads cut off. I had to tell our waitress we were ready to order. The chips and salsa were stale I didn’t even bother to send back didn’t want to wait any longer. She took our order, meanwhile as she walked by once more I told her to cancel my drink order cause it never came. They I spy a waitress with our food in her hand asking around which table it goes to. This seems to be happening to every patron in here. We get our food finally and I had to wait to ask for ketchup, silverware and napkins because they were not given to us upon seating when the waitress finally acknowledged us. After eating our not so great meal I asked for the check, that took a while too. Needless to say this was a horrible experience. Nearby patrons expressed their mutual feelings from across the room as she almost died of thirst because her waitress took forever to notice her drink was empty lol. There was no manager in sight to correct any of these issues with their staff or to apologize for the wait and poor service. This establishment is Very unorganized. The men’s bathroom smelled bad and was dirty as well. We will definitely not be back and do not recommend this place unless their staff gets retrained and staffed properly.

It’s got a nice lake view, and the food during lunch was delicious. I had the queso burger, and it was on point with the flavors. Customer service was great, and there were plenty of parking spots too.

The only downside was that they need better napkins, and the restrooms were really disappointing with a horrible urine smell.
