Such a fun and great place to grab snacks or a small meal while looking for books at half price books! I came here with some of my girlfriends! I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection and the high quality of every item we ordered! For pastries: We got the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cruffin, pesto Parmesan croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and Persian love cake! I got a horchata to drink and my friend got the Turkish coffee! All were so good! The horchata was very sweet! The Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cruffin was all of our favorite!

i'll start by saying, the baristas were very kind & had great attitudes, so this isn't anything to harm however the public views them as individuals, now for the real review:

as a former barista & a dedicated coffee enthusiast, when i saw this coffee spot / bar connected to the biggest Half Priced Book store i'd ever come across, i knew after shopping i'd have to give it a try. i saw a really cute outdoor seating area there as well, lit with small table torches - it looked legit!

so, my fiancé & i ordered two vanilla cold brews with cold foam, a parmesan croissant & a monkey bread muffin.

right at the first sip, the cold brews were extremely tart. we agreed they tasted like dates. bitter as well. it also had absolutely no cold foam in it, which maybe if it did then it would have been balanced with some sweetness. after a couple more sips, we both tossed them.

now for the food, the monkey bread muffin was dry, old & lacked traditional monkey bread flavors. my 9 year old, who will typically be the first to enjoy any sweet, said he would rather let the Devil tickle his toes in Hell before having another bite. (he's a jokester)

the parm croissant lacked flakiness, surprisingly for a rather flakey pastry. other than some lightly shredded parm on top, it just lacked flavor. the consistency of the food was just a total let down.

all in all, i should've just tried La Madeline or some place that's better at french baking.

i noticed that whoever responds to the reviews on this Google Page is also kind of rude & condescending. like i stated before, the girls working there were sweet, pretty, kind. i don't blame them because the owners have terrible recipes, it's not their fault.

i definitely wouldn't recommend this spot, save you're $27 for two pastries & two drinks for somewhere worth it.

I’ve been here a few times because it’s inside the bookstore however each time the service gets worse. It’s not very big so wait times aren’t worth the hassle but what sealed the deal was when I heard colleagues displaying signs of disrespect towards other employees in front of their co workers which is another sign it’s a unpleasant environment. Like no signs of humanity while bullying on the job is disturbing now if you want a some good honey matcha w/ a unflavored overcooked chicken sandwich amongst toddlers and strollers in a overstimulated environment…give it a shot!

As you see the response! Why not take that same energy and use it for a good use in creating a better work environment for your colleagues which would help the energy inside! I deleted the comment because it was on the wrong location…this Northwest Hwy location needs work and I’m done talking ✌🏽

The fact that customers are only allowed to sit inside if they order as dine in is completely unacceptable. As a paying customer, I should be allowed to sit inside regardless of whether my order was given to me in a to go container or not. I paid for my stuff, and it’s not my fault the person who took my order failed to ask me if I wanted to dine in or have my order to go. After this (my first, and ONLY) visit I will not be patronizing your establishment ever again, and I will warn others of the same.

Drip coffee was Terrible!!!! For some reason it was sweet!! Tasted terribly bad! La casita lady likes her sugar !!!!!

Update- based on the response from La casita it seems employees may need training to serve what has been ordered.

My wife says - because of their weird cups - this is her least favorite coffee experience she has ever had in her whole life.

Personally, these are indeed the weirdest cups I have ever seen.

I was bearing with it, but after a while my wife asked me, “Don’t you feel like a stupid baby drinking from it?”

I replied, “I do now.”

In other news, the coffee was fine. We just couldn’t get past the weird cups. Next time, I’ll bring my own and pour it in that so I don’t - once again - feel like a stupid baby.

Dietary restrictions: They have oat milk & gluten-free.

The food was absolutely delicious. Coffee was great and the service was super fast and friendly. It was pretty crowded and the seating wasn't ideal, but I would definitely go back. So many options to choose from that you have no choice but to return

Cool cafe, very busy place attached to the bookshop. Probably a cool book hunt + coffee date place but there will likely be a wait time if you don't want to look at books.

It doesn’t matter how great your menu is or how cool the atmosphere is, when your customer service is trash everything else goes out the window.

Spoke to three different employees, all of which were rude or in a bad mood.. like if you don’t like were you work just get another job it’s not that complicated…

I would give it negative stars if I could.

We visited the La Casita Coffee - Half Price Books location for brunch and were told there was a 30-minute wait for seating. Since we noticed a few open tables in the “outdoor” area (outside the cafe) connected to the bookstore—where we've previously enjoyed drinks and pastries without issue—we decided to order our food to-go and sit that area.

After placing our order, while grabbing napkins, a waitress named Jessica approached and told us we couldn’t sit there unless we were dining in. Later, when our food is ready for pickup, I asked Em, the staff member who took our order at the counter, if it was okay for my child to sit “outdoor” area and eat. She confirmed it was fine.

However, just a few minutes later, Jessica returned, raised her voice, and insisted we couldn’t sit there — disrupting our meal, drawing attention from nearby guests, kicking us out while my kid was eating. When I asked to speak with the manager, Jessica claimed she was the boss, though Em later clarified that general manager was not there today.

The entire experience left us wondering if we were being treated unfairly. Raising her voice at a family with a young child and trying to remove us from our seat was beyond unprofessional. We have visited countless cafés in Dallas and around the world and have never been treated this way.

Sharing our experience here and on other social media forums so others are aware.

We wanted to try this place before shopping never got past the oddly passive aggressive staff to place an order.

Very cozy cafe with good - and quick - eggs Benedict and better-than-average drip coffee. Friendly service, and great having a big bookstore attached. I’ll be back!
