It’s an international food restaurant in disguise! I tried tikka chicken, cauliflower and mexican-call shrimp. All really good. I especially liked the shrimp one, very refreshing.
A fun experience, def worth trying if you’re in the area.

Velvet Taco is a smaller taco chain with a familiar feel, often compared to Torchy’s, including a similarly playful and occasionally over sexualized approach to taco names and imagery. The concept centers on creative flavor combinations, supported by a rotating weekly special meant to keep the menu feeling fresh.
I have been here before and generally enjoy it, but I have yet to find a taco that truly demands attention. Across multiple visits, the food has consistently landed in the same place: fine. There is promise here, but none of the offerings I have tried have transcended the franchise or established a clear standout.
On this visit, I ordered the weekly Hangover Breakfast taco along with the Korean fried rice. Both were, again, fine.
The Hangover Breakfast taco came close to being excellent. There was a lot happening in the tortilla, almost to the point of success. The inclusion of tater tots added welcome texture, but unfortunately the oil used to fry them carried an unpleasant flavor that overwhelmed the taco. When eaten without the tots, the taco was enjoyable but noticeably lacked crunch. It felt very close to working, but ultimately missed the mark. A different frying approach, perhaps something like beef tallow, could make a meaningful difference here.
The Korean fried rice was serviceable but unremarkable. It filled the role of a side, but nothing about it lingered or invited a return.
There are still several items on the menu that I would like to try, but nothing so far has compelled me to come back specifically for a single dish. Velvet Taco continues to show potential, but it has yet to deliver a taco that defines the brand.
My rating: ★★★☆☆ (3 stars)
Rating scale:
1 star — I will never return.
2 stars — If nearby, I might return, but without urgency.
3 stars — Worth a visit if in the area, though not a destination.
4 stars — Worth going out of your way to enjoy.
5 stars — I would fly around the world for this meal.

We had a Velvet Taco's veggie bowl, beer battered cauliflower taco, Nashville Hot taco and a red curry coconut queso chips. All we're good. But the red curry coconut sauce for the tortilla chips was too salty to truly enjoy. The cops were also too oily. Besides that, I recommend Velvet Taco's for an interesting new Mexican fusion experience.

Eeeyuck. I keep trying to like their food but it’s over hyped. They do too much with their food or maybe I am not that fancy.
I’d rather just go to a taco shop in Dallas elsewhere.
A very fine taco place. Great menu, delicious food and excellent service. Highly recommended.

We have been to Velvet Taco before, but this was the first time at the Deep Ellum location. We went during the day for lunch. Super clean, safe atmosphere, short lines, and great food. From the bowl to the chips and guac, everything we got was tasty and well presented. The one bummer was they never called out my number or name letting me know my meal was ready. After the others at my table were half-way done eating their meals, I finally went up to inquire. That's when I see her scrolling her phone while my meal was waiting there getting cold. Yikes..
