As a visitor from Chicago and in town for a few days, I asked a friend where I could get some good food. He was quick to answer, “Rivas on Zaragoza”. I tried their steak and eggs burrito with hot sauce on the side. Their menu was intricate, but the cashier was incredibly helpful, walking me through it, answering all my questions, and even suggesting his favorite. I trusted his recommendation, and he was spot on.

The inside of the restaurant was clean and spacious, reminiscent of a popular Baja Cali/Mexi Cali spot on the West Coast, but with a distinct EPT twist. I also ordered the Carne Asada Fries, which were better than expected—quite a feat since my expectations were already high.

This place is fantastic for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can swing by on Monday and Thursday nights to catch a game on their TVs, enjoy a draft beer, and savor some great food. Highly recommended! Check this place out. Come alone, with a friend, or with your family—either way, you won't be disappointed.

One of our best spots to eat southern Cali tacos, burritos, etc
reminds me and my family of Roberto’s in San Diego, CA. Food is amazing, flavors pop. The only down side is that Rivas closes too early everyday. Would be lovely if they closed a lot later. Most of the time when I get off from work I go home relax then want to make my way to the far east from the far west just to eat there in Rivas. I get exhausted sometimes: there’s been occasions where the shop may be closed for what ever reasons so I end up driving there for no reason. I guess I’m just used to San Diego’s Roberto’s which was a 24hr and still is today. So it would be nice if Rivas can stay open a little later. A lot of truck drivers would love to eat there if they did it’s just not really advertised. Other than that spill it’s a 5 star no matter.

I use to love this place. The food is good but the service sucks. You all should hire professional people if they’re going to be at the window. The kids meals come with drinks but yet they don’t ask what they want as the drink so I’m thinking it’s just a juice but then at the window the girl asks me if I want the kids drinks like duh doesn’t it come with a drink ??? And then she gets my drink wrong and I get home and I’m missing my consome for my quesa Birria.

Went for lunch today. Had adobada torta and it was falling apart. The meat wasn't cooked well either. I would have preferred the meat crispier. But the French fries weren't great. I was told I got the wrong thing that I should try the carne asada fries. So maybe I'll give it another try

Everyone was so friendly and professional. Bought breakfast for the whole family, including my picky eater. Everyone loved their food. We ordered the fried pickles to go. They were soooo good. I was surprised. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go again.

Kid-friendliness: You can ask for them to eliminate items or add depending on what your child will or won't eat. Just ask them at the register. They were very friendly and understanding.

Got to finally try Rivas Taco Shop. It’s a nice place to grab a Cali style burrito in East El Paso, with a huge selection of different items, you’ll definitely find something for everyone on their menu. If you like big burritos but don’t like paying $40 for two burritos then skip Chipotle and hit up Rivas. They specialize in big California style burritos. You know the type, loaded with meat, veggies, and fries, then rolled up like a big fat blunt. Breakfast items look good too. My only complaint is the menu is hard to read. I went here to try their Chico’s Tacos fries that I saw online, but I didn’t see it on the menu and under pressure from the cashier, and fear that I had dreamed up those Chicos Tacos loaded fries I just got a couple of their classic burritos and an order of tacos ahogados, which I thought would be like chicos, but turns out they’re smothered in a sour spicy green tomatillo sauce, good, but not what I expected. (This part really isn’t a complaint about the cashier, she was nice, not trying to rush me, I just hate making people wait.) While I sat and waited for my order I was still trying to find those fries on the menu, and eventually I found them, all the way on the right bottom of the menu where you would normally see the drink or kids menu. 😿 The burritos are definitely worth the price. It took me all day to finish. I got the chicken, which is marinated in what tasted like a jalapeño chipotle marinade, a little too salty, but still tasty. The tortillas are Cali style, thin, big, and slightly under done, which makes them perfect for rolling up a massive amount of fillings. Unfortunately I didn’t see the Cali burrito section of the menu, so no fries in the classic burritos. Overall I liked what I got to try, and will definitely be back to try those loaded fries, and the breakfast looks really promising. The menu really needs to be reorganized, there are so many options that it’s overwhelming to try to find and pick something. But I will be back and this review will be updated when I get to try those fries
