I've loved this place for years and every person I've introduced to Buttons loves it too. We usually go very early or during off times to avoid the crowds because this place is popular and gets very busy (for good reason). Most recently we went for a late lunch around 2:30 in the afternoon and our order was delayed because the kitchen was working on a large catering order. We were not in a hurry and didn't mind but our server was so nice and brought us a second round of beers for free. When our food did come out it was hot and delicious as always. We never complained about the wait but regardless our server also discounted our check by 10%. I don't think many restaurants would have done the same. I love this place and I can't wait to go back when they reopen!
It was awsome, really good night out with my wife. The band was sensational, we shared a plate of ox tail. Which was the best I had,I kept looking for grandma back in the kitchen. I'm sure they got her hid in a back room somewhere.
The entertainment was wonderful the food not so much. Our waiter was nothing short of amazing. He was very attentive and helpful. Food and drinks are overpriced.
We were in town for the Cowtown Marathon and decided to try something new. The food was excellent. I had the chicken fried chicken, jalapeño cheese grits, and mashed potatoes. Delicious. My wife had the chicken wings with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Very good. The peach cobbler crust was gummy, but that’s my only complaint. The live music band played new and old school music. The band set a great mood. We will definitely return. FYI: If you want to sit on the ground floor tables, make a reservation.
Reservations were made...Got there they act like they didnt have a clue as to what I was talking about. Also, I ordered the Jumbo shrimp, catfish with cheese grits. My plate had two small shrimps....2 small shrimp! Yall could have at least given me 4, I would have been satisfied. Stop the false advertising of the menu. If you know good and hell well you do not have jumbo shrimp then take it off the menu. Very Dissappointed
The best comfort food I have ever tasted! The savory grits, the fish ,the french toast, the red velvet cake and so on is top notch and we left before the live jazz started. You can have a conversation without raising your voice. Will return with friends!
The Food was absolutely amazing! Chicken fried chicken was amazing. That gravy was what made it. Cabbage and cornbread were also great. The only thing that kept this from a five star review for me is the music was loud in my opinion for lunch. It was hard to carry a conversation without having to speak up and lean in closer.
Went in today during the buffet. I ate breakfast. The food was really good. I love French toast and it was really good. Not a lot of places I got to that have good French toast. The live music was great too. Good atmosphere. Can’t wait to go when it’s warmer. Only thing I didn’t like was $21 per adult for the buffet. Other than that it’s pretty good
The mac n cheese was not my favorite, its wasn't horrible, but not my favorite. The collard greens were cooked with too much vinegar; they were way to tangy. The chicken tasted home fried; some people may like that.
We’ve been going to Buttons for years but it is sadly clear that they won’t be around much longer. The menu has changed and the food was mediocre at best. That’s after one dish was returned with a hair in it. It was prime happy hour but the bar was empty and there was only 1 other table of folks there yet it still took 25 minutes to get a drink because the bartender was everywhere but behind the bar. The atmosphere has changed drastically? The 2 stars I gave it was because the waiter, bless his heart, was as positive and hard working as he could be considering what he had to work with!

The band was great. We've been going to Buttons from day 1 and even before when Chef Keith was at his previous restaurant. On this occasion it started with calling from 11a - 1:30 before someone answered the phone to take my reservation. Arrived on time and met some friends there who had a reservation 30 minutes prior and they were yet to be seated. Overheard one woman say she made her reservation over 2 week's ago and her party left disgusted. We sit down to eat and the menus were torn and tattered. Our friends enjoyed their food but the catfish had zero taste. The men's room was disgusting. Once a favorite now seems to be in a state of decline. Truly sad, do better or I'm sure they won't survive. Hopefully they get it back on track.
Service was good. No complaints there. The menu, cocktails as well as food, have changed. My favorite thing there, the first thing that drew me and made me continuously come back was the wangz! They were delicious. Apparently, due to some complaints about the spice factor, they no longer make them how they used to. They no longer sauce them and send them out dry. If there were complaints, offer a dry version as well as the spicy version, don’t just get rid of something that you have been serving since inception and that some people absolutely love. Also, the drink menu. There were a few cocktails that I used to get that they no longer keep the ingredients to make so I was stuck trying a new cocktail that was mediocre at best. The oxtails were delicious but went for the total meal. Two of the elements were not up to par and seeing as how this is the menu going forward, I won’t be making the 40 minute drive again. Truly sad!
Shut this place down. Their rude, obnoxious and don't take care of their customers.
The music is very mellow. Smooth jazz and r&b The food though has changed drastically and the menu is much smaller. You may love the food but it was different from when I came a couple years ago. Great atmosphere, mellow, small crowd. I would come back but probably just sit at the bar.
I never would have imagined having so much fun in a place that is so out of my cultural zone. The food, the drinks and the people were all so soulful. I had a beautiful time and made some new friends. To buy my pictures are on my other phone right include them. The girl that was singing that night had a birthday that night and after we have been talking for awhile and realize that we were both in the entertainment field and had quite a bit in common she invited me to her table for cake. Now how many people will invite a new person over to share birthday cake... What a night this was! It's the last night a really great friend of mine and I had a chance to go out. And the fact that it was such a fun place with such an upbeat atmosphere made it mean that much more.
