The best burger is north Texas is no more. Looks like they have changed everything that was good here, this was terrible. I guess the new owners have ruined The Star.

I liked this place for a casual place to grab some food. We were at a business event and the fancier places had long waits. To be honest, I liked the quieter atmosphere because I just wanted to sit and talk. After I left town and was at the airport, I realized I didn't have my credit card. I called and Misty put it in the mail immediately which I greatly appreciated.

It would have been really nice to have a heads up on the hour and a half wait for the food. It would have totally changed things. But by the time our food finally came, we were very unimpressed by the extremely small burger we had decided to share. Not worth it for the price.

We walked in think it would be a cool place to grab an early dinner. I ordered an old fashioned to start off with. It was the 2nd worst old fashioned that I’ve ever had. Tasted like bourbon and water.By the time the drinks showed up we had already ordered the rib eye steak and a burger. I ordered the rib eye medium rare and it came out closer to medium/medium well. The burger was way under cooked. The accompanying mashed potatoes were relatively tasteless. The gravy was the same, tasteless. The servers were however very pleasant.

Food was good, but that has to be the smallest chicken fried steak in Tx.

I understand the Star has a new owner. Went there for lunch and ordered chicken fried steak for $16.00. Which only came with the steak and mash potatoes, seems the new owner has cut out the salad you used to get with it. Way way over priced for what you get and would not recommend.

I have to give Star Cafe 2 Stars. We came in on a Sunday morning. First of all when you come to an old town "cafe" you'd expect to have the ambiance, the service and food like as if you came into an old ma & pa type establishment with amazing home cooked & flavorful meals. This place just misses the mark. The ambiance is there! The service was "ok". Lady behind the bar was pretty likable, sociable and gave you that welcoming feeling. The heavier set lady that served us not so much. We had high hopes that the food would be amazing. We were sadly disappointed. My husband's chicken fried steak and eggs had literally no flavor. The gravy left A LOT to be desired, again no flavor. I ordered the smoked German sausage and eggs. The sausage was pretty good. The eggs and hashbrowns were drier than dry. It seemed as if the hashbrowns were thrown on a cookie sheet and left in the oven for a few hours and were dark brown. I was only given 1 piece of toast and no butter. This place could really hit it out of the park if they got someone in the back that actually KNOWS how to cook a fabulous breakfast! Like, don't be afraid to throw some bacon grease on that grill to cook the eggs and hashbrowns. That's what I would expect coming to a " old down Texas cafe"! The biggest insult is that we were charged $50 for our breakfast (or lack thereof). Not worth more than $10 in my opinion.

We came in and waited 30 minutes just for someone to take our drink order, then waited over an hour for our food, noticed after a while that people who came after us received their food before us. The couple behind us noticed as well because they came in long after we did and had already gotten their food. Lo and behold, the kitchen misplaced our ticket. Once we said we were leaving, suddenly our food came out, fries undercooked, burgers burnt and dry, daughters steak was undercooked, she asked for medium rare, not for it to still be mooing, our kids frustrated because they’d been waiting so long. I usually try to be patient when these things happen, I get it, it gets busy, but when we and MULTIPLE other customers expressed our frustration and concerns, our loud to the manager, she would only offer us a small discount on our entire meal. The place wasn’t full, and they definitely had enough staff. Definitely would not recommend going here. Overpriced and horrible service.

the worst service ever. The manager is rude and obnoxious. Horrible doesn't even describe this place.

We placed our name on the wait list; it was a Thursday evening. We finally got seated. We knew it was going to be slow and we were right. We were served our appetizers relatively timely but our meal took sooooo long. It took over an hour from the time we sat down to finally getting our meal. The real clincher for the one star rating. How can two steaks (with one being a $40 cut of meat) be cooked well done when we asked for medium rare? This is Texas; well done steaks are unheard of, especially when you're in the Stockyards area. The waitress didn't seem to care and gave us some attitude when we pointed out the steaks. She informed us they had one cook working that night. Whether that's true or not is unclear but what was clear was that our steaks were very overcooked. And the waitress had the nerve to bring our salads to us after our meals were finally served. She asked us if we still wanted them cause "some people don't want them after their food arrives." Hell yeah we want our salads. We're paying for them since they're part of the meal. Seems like that was their ploy for cost savings - serve the salad after the meal is served. She did the same thing to the customers sitting behind us. Not coming back here anytime soon, if ever!

The Star Cafe should be ashamed to serve steak in the Stock Yard. If you want to wait over an hour for shady service and over cooked steaks, you've come to the right place. After ordering, we waited over an hour for our food. We were surprised that our steaks were brought out before the salads. When we asked about the salads, our waiter said she didn't bring out the salads because she assumed we didn't want them anymore. We overheard this same salad question at the table next to us. It seems like a shady business practice to cut costs by trying not to serve what's supposed to be included with your entree. The worst part of our meal was when we found all of our steaks cooked well done when they were all ordered medium rare. Our waiter said the steaks would be comped, and our receipt still had the steaks shown. They did take 10% off, but truthfully, you couldn't pay me to eat a steak like that again, much less wait an hour to get seated, and then another hour to wait for food. It was an awful experience that I hope others who enjoy their steak to avoid. I want to support small businesses, but this place will not earn my business again.

Excellent service by Patsy even though she was the only waitress working. We had the Chicken Fried Steak and BLT, both were excellent.

The food was just ok especially considering the price and wait time. I ordered the ribeye steak for $43 and they missed the temp under. The outside was the correct temp but the inside was blue. In fact, of the 3 streaks ordered at our table they missed the temperature on all of them. The highlight of the meal was the roll, honestly. Just being honest I'd rather go somewhere else and spend more money on a better quality cut of meat that's better prepared.
