Been over a decade since visiting this Texas landmark, and was excited about visiting again and sharing with family that had never been. Unfortunately can't say it was anything like I remembered. We made reservations for 6pm and entered a nearly empty restaurant. We were seated immediately, but waited 40 minutes before the server took our order while other parties came in, were seated and were able to order. At the 40 minute mark we had to go chase down the server and ask to place an order. Chicken fried steaks were the choice of the table. The meat was tough and over fried, the gravy wasn't able to mask. The biggest surprise came when we received the check, and spotted a $40 music fee, which was $10pp. When making the reservation we were not told of a music fee/cover charge. When going to the website afterwards to check to see if we had missed, were unable to locate this charge as well. Apparently if you sit in the room with the entertainment you pay this fee, but if you sit in the adjacent room there is no fee. Unfortunately, we were not told this upon our arrival, or given a choice. Hoping this review might save someone from this surprise charge. We always tip the musicians, so we would have anyways, but it would have been nice to have been given the choice. Sadly we won't be back again.

$18 for 3 shrimp on bread, this is what they call a shrimp poboy. I call it aggravated sexual assault. Fries are extra btw. No gumbo, no bacon for burgers. The waitress had a horrible attitude the whole time, dealing with 4 tables of 2 is a lot, I know. Can't see how some of these places make it onto these top texas restaurant lists.

Quirky little place out in the middle of nowhere. Very eclectic atmo. Menu is not what you expect when you walk in the door, but it's great just the same. And, we met and chatted with Johnny Nicholas, owner and guitar man extraordinary. Exceeded expectations.

Laid back spot to grab a drink and some good food. Food was flavorful. The burger tasted good but was a bit dense for my taste. I did not care for the truffle fries. The fried steak and gravy was very good

Unbelievably good food. Well worth the trip outside of Fredericksburg to stop by. Ordered the Mahi Mahi and it was divine. Cannot recommend enough. Friends had the chicken fried steak and shrimp pasta. Both of which were excellent as well.

I am sorry that I didn't make it here sooner. Tonight we were able to spend the evening with a legend, Johnny Nicholas. Thank you Katie for the recommendation. The food and the music is just what is needed for the perfect night out. Alex our waiter had the patience of a saint, as we had one plate at a time for a 5 course meal. You need to experience this place.

This was our second time to go here to eat. It is in an old gas station with lots and lots of random decor. When you see this place you would not believe the items on the menu. It has a more sophisticated selection. We opted for a table near the music. There is a cover charge for that but it ended up the music was the owner, Johnny Nicholas who was once in Asleep at the Wheel band. The evening was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The best chicken fried steak i have ever eaten. So sad this place will not be around much longer. I just found it and it will be gone. This place was awesome!!!!!

This is a Bucket List kinda place. So absolutely special. The place is an old gas station turned into a fantastic cafe. Top quality food, and the atmosphere is bar none. Come discover what a special place it is. The owner's are quiet special also. Bluesman, "Johnny Nicholas" of Asleep at the Wheel and his lovely wife Brenda. Eclectic and funky !
