Great place to eat in Fredericksburg ! Reasonable Priced and The food Is Great ! Not Super fancy like everything else in the town, I got the fish sandwich sooo good ! My boyfriend liked his brisket sandwich also ! The Sweet Potatoes fries were a 10/10 ! Loved it here !!

It's pretty much a self-serve place. You stand in line to order food (which is good) and your drinks. We had to share a chicken fried steak it was so big. Prices are reasonable.

This place is different for sure. Different as far as the restaurant side of things go. A receptionist will ask you if you wish to be seated inside or outside. We picked inside and followed her to a table at which point she said to order the food at the end of the bar. We took a look at the menu and decided what we would have. We were eating early so we could get back home before nightfall. I walked up to the end of the bar and waited behind a gentleman to finish ordering. His business was complete and I was next. At which point the order taker turned on her heels and went off to mix drinks for some other customer. She didn't take the time to say "I'll be with you in a minute", just left. Upon her return I delved into telling her my order. I had a couple of questions and her responses were either yes or no. She told me the cost, I paid, she gave me a pager and that was that. Zero personality with a fake smile.
We waited around 15 to 20 minutes for the pager to go off, at which time I had to make my way to a small room adjacent to the dining area to collect the food. You show your ticket to Mr. Grinch, he'll point to your tray, you turn around and prepare your own drinks from vending machines, help yourself to condiments and collect your napkins and cutlery. All this time I was thinking how stupid I was to have given a tip when ordering! I sat down with my wife and noticed that there were at least 20 people lined up to order food. I timed the last person in line to see when he would get to the front. 17 mins.
Food: I had the Reuben sandwich with onion strings. My wife had Fajita Ladas which appeared to be 3-4 strips of grilled meat atop what looked like a swirled mess of cheese and beans with chips on the side. My sandwich was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it, along with the accompanying pickle. I also had a single portion of onion strings and wished I hadn't. Hard to pick up, harder to dip in any sauce and quite tasteless.
I suppose I was disappointed in myself for not researching the reviews of the place first but we were in a hurry to make our way home as I had mentioned. Possibly people on the whole are satisfied with this place given that you can eat reasonable fare and be entertained by country music, live or recorded. The walls were adorned with stuffed animals, pictures and memorabilia of Mr. Hondo's life. The place had character but that was it for me.

Rustic environment, great food, awesome staff! Had the Tex Mex Red Enchiladas, oh my goodness GOOD! A lot of people had curly fries with various toppings and that looked good as well. Definitely wanna return soon! Self service restaurant

Taco's dry...no salsa verde..macaroni n brisket thicker than usual.. not the place for disabled..as have to carry utensils, drinks etc where no waitress.

Hondo's is a fun, casual place. Indoor and outdoor seating. Daily specials. Tasty food without pretensions. Scheduled live music. Any visit to Fredericksburg without a visit to Hondo's would be a shame.

Great vibes and atmosphere! We loved the outdoor seating area and how lovely everything was. No complaints with their self service system.
I got a Slobb Cobb salad- menu said it was piled high grilled chicken and other various delectables. There were probably six crouton size pieces of grilled chicken on that salad total... and they were super dry. Overall kind of skimpy on the toppings. The dressing was good though.
Wife got the chicken fried steak- this was a disappointing cut of meat, honestly. Too many fatty bits. Good breading, but it didn't stick to the meat very well. The gravy was basically flavorless. I definitely expected something with more of a bite. The mashed potatoes are pretty good.
I just think they can do better with the food. Much better.

Had lunch here and it was Awesome! Large outdoor eating area with live music. Full service bar with margaritas! My wife had the enchilada bowl and I had the loaded seasoned curly fries with pulled pork! Both dishes were delicious! The jalapeño margarita was not spicy but had the jalapeño flavor.
This place had great bathrooms too! The lack of facilities in downtown Fredericksburg is disappointing. With the amount of drinking you do and the shops not having public restrooms, it can make for some unexpected stress.
