My girlfriend and I decided to try a new place today and it was not a good idea. The service was not great, waiter took a long time to get to us, didn’t check on us after we had got our food. The food is the star of the show, it is AWFUL. It takes a lot of skill to make food I don’t like but they succeeded. This was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Absolutely bland, not a single grain of salt or pepper to be found. Lots of oil. The bell pepper on my sweet and sour chicken was the butt of the pepper cut in quarters. The chicken was fried to shit and didn’t have flavor. My girlfriend ordered the chef special with shrimp chicken and beef in a brown sauce and it looked like it came out of a horror movie. All sorts of meats and vegetables and soaked in sauce but everything tasted the same. Not to mention it was $1.50 extra for fried rice and there was no difference in taste compared to the white rice. We will never come back, how do yall give this place 5 stars you’re WILD

Shanghai Express has always been one of my favorite Chinese food establishments. The food has always been great, and reasonable prices. The service has always been great! I like that the owner hires a lot of high school students, as it helps the younger generations enter the job market, and helps establish a sense of community.
I recently moved back to Central Texas from California, and when I visited Georgetown, I knew I had to get my Shanghai Express fix before leaving town.

We had a birthday celebration here and they were ready for us. Our waiter was great and very attentive to our needs. Food, as always, was great. The owners are always so personable and willing to accommodate. If you have never been, you are missing out. Go by and check them out.

It didn't look too promising when we went in, but the food more than made up for it! The only place that I have found since we moved to Texas that had Egg Fu Yeung, and it was really good. Shrimp or pork or veg or combo, a flavor for anyone. And they deliver! I highly recommend.

Small quaint restaurant filled with kind sweet people who make you feel important. Food is delicious, we had the combo rice with shrimp, pork and vegetables. I prefer buffet style but the plate selection was a good choice.

I found the food to be bland and tasteless, one note. Appetizer shrimp something so mushy, horrible mouth feel. I will not be going back and after reading about the hair, I can't even finish my food.. hair is the simplest to remedy. I paid $27 something, gross. I'll order pizza for delivery for $27 :'(

I have been going to this restaurant for 20 years and always had good service and good food. Maybe today was an off day I D K. I went in about 1:15 PM on a Friday, was seated quickly. Hardly any customers in the restaurant. Maybe someone at one table. Anyway I was in somewhat of a rush as I only had about 30 minutes for lunch. When I went in there were several employees standing around. After sitting at a table for about 5 minutes and watching 2 employees start bussing the only two dirty tables, I ask if they had any wait staff or servers. I got a blank stare, and a “someone will be with you in a moment”. By that time I felt as if I would be pushing it too close to my 30 minute window for lunch. It is sad as this place used to be too notch when Leo was there most times running the place. I told Devon about it on my way out, but did not have time to stay and eat and try to make it work. Moral of the story, give yourself plenty of time to eat there, even when they are not busy at all. I may give it another try in the future, but today they get a failing grade.

This is the very first Chinese food restaurant that has been as close to what I grew up loving. The food was great, service was awesome and my food was served so quickly. I was particularly impressed with the egg rolls. I lived in CA most of my life so these were exactly like I remembered from home. It's a small part of a great meal, but it made my experience so much better. It's refreshing to see a Texas restaurant with such great tasting food. Thanks for taking me back to real comfort food just like when I was a kid!
