Kohnami Restaurant Harlingen ll

While I don’t mind tipping for my services, I did not agree with the restaurant automatically billing my check for a gratuity for only 2 people. It was our first time there, we were not told about the policy, when questioned they waiter said, “didn’t you like my service”? That is not what “TIPS” stands for. Then the waiter wanted a tip on top of the gratuity. Never again. It is not my job to help support the owner, the building, or the staff in any way. This has gotten out of hand. I was a waitress for a few years. I worked hard. I made good tips. I didn’t ask for something from anyone. If they tipped, they tipped. If they didn’t, they didn’t. I did not need any help from a bogus charge added to people’s checks. That is a bit ridiculous. Shame on ya !

Food is good, but the water they use use is terrible. Even the soft drinks taste bad. Every time we go we get the worst waitress I've ever had to deal with. She talks to you in a fake high pitched voice that comes off both disingenuous and condescending. The way some people talk to children or puppies. Then she talks like a normal person with the other waitstaff. It's very weird and off putting.

Ordered 3 General Tso’s for dinner, while the taste was good we were all fairly disappointed. It was overly sweet, no spice whatsoever, we like a spicier note or any spice at all really and this was definitely not it. I ate mine because I like sweet or savory but the others did not even eat 1/4 of it. Last time we ordered from here was over 1 year ago which was disappointing but we decided to give it another chance. We will not be going back unfortunately.

You order an appetizer and it’s not even done right you asked them to remove it. They still charge you. Customer service just wasn’t there either .

I always have a good time here and the food is so so good. You can’t go wrong with the teppankayi, but my favorite dishes are the general tsao chicken, magnolian beef, and for sushi rolls my favs are: geisha, butter yellow tail, samurai fiesta, kiss of fire and red dragon roll! There’s half off sushi rolls every weekend and lunch specials during the week too so that’s a plus :)

I used to love this place however it seems they’ve changed the recipe to some sushi rolls. Specifically the mango roll and butter yellowtail roll. They used to be good but now they’re awful. Not sure what’s happening in the kitchen.
