Food is good, I am Vegan and they have a few options with Tofu. The place is old and in desperate need of renovations though. It looks dirty, but it's just old. The people are extremely friendly, and they always make the food fresh. I have been going here for years.

Everything's waiting for you at Downtown Cafe.This is a standard American Chinese restaurant and if it were in the most downtowns in the country where there isn't a lot of great food, I would give it a higher rating cuz service was not bad and the food is okay.But compared to the wealth of sensational spectacular food that Houston has to offer it just doesn't get it done. Having said that it's far from the worst of the downtown lunch options in Htown.

So I've been here a couple times and every time this place disappoints. Honestly don't know how they are still in business. With all the restaurants hurting for business, I felt and I wanted some chinese food for lunch, I thought I'd give them some business. Go figure, Not a single customer in there, so they have all the time in the world to clean the place,,,, However, it still smells really bad. Was going to leave, but figured, I'm here already, lets just get some food and go. Order some Shrimp Lo-mien, go figure... quality is terrible. Honestly hope this place goes out of business soon so another company can come in and hopefully make something better,,, all i know is they can't make it worse.

Tables and menus were sticky and it was very humid in there. Food was not to the standards it once was. Hot and sour soup was not good at all and the main course was the same. Service was not great and getting the bill was slow. We had a group of 6. All had the same opinion of the place.

Why do I keep going here? It is on my way between places and when I don't want to go to far out of my way it is convenient. But I usually regret the stop.

Downtown Cafe has friendly waiters. The food is good and service is quick. Great place to go to lunch on a work day.
Rude service. There was a roach in my plate. Though they brought a fresh plate and didn't charge me anything, but it ruined my experience. Very disappointing.
