When you own a business I think it’s mandatory to hire one’s that exemplifies great customer service. I visited Esther’s on today. I ordered an oxtail plate while moving in the line I approached the area to choose my sides the lady was there making I believe door dash orders not once did she look up to acknowledge that we were there. As we stood there for at least 2/3 minutes my mom asked is this where we get the sides. Instead of her saying yes give me one second she looked up with the nastiest look and told us to basically wait. I would think if you have customer in front of you what you were doing could have waited especially if it was another individual helping with that task. I will never go back to support this establishment especially after spending $50 bucks for an oxtail plate and banana pudding.

Wow where do I begin maybe I came in at the wrong time but the food was awful I came in thinking I was going to get a special via there phone services which says they have specials on certain days went in to get meatloaf just for it to be close to 25$ which is incredibly over priced I wouldn’t feed this to my dog and I’m so serious I would never go back to this place hopefully on the future I would change my mind but I think not 😅

All the food I bought was real good. But the staff is very unprofessional. I waited 45 minutes for two pieces of fish. I think that was poor management. I would hate to take my business elsewhere because of the customer service. Some training in management need to happen ASAP

I come here often and the food is great. But the customer service leaves something to be desired. And proceed with caution if you order something that the kitchen needs to cook (I.e. catfish). It can take 45 minutes or they just forget about it. The staff behind the counter sometimes doesn’t care

To the lady with the glasses if you really have an attitude with everybody that walks in through that door, you seriously need to rethink who You are..... I believe the restaurant is Ms Esther's not yours, you need to treat anybody that comes through the door with customer service not negativity seriously work on yourself be better please..... Miss Esther truly a restaurant is impeccable it can do better but your employees seriously need an attitude adjustment.

I Went on Tuesday June 23, 2026 for the first time. The customer service was horrible. I didn’t see a menu where it tells you what combos you can get so I asked the young man that was the first server. He didn’t say hello what can I get you he just sat there and looked at. I told him this my first time what can I get ( two meats 2 sides or 1 meat two sides) he didn’t reply and just stared at me. So I ordered the oxtails and potato salad and then moved to the next server which was an older lady. She rudely asked “ ma’am what you want?” I replied back well what can I get!!! She said two sides so I got the collard greens and macaroni.. I really wanted to just walk out, but I had drove an hour out to try this place. When it was time to ring me up, I asked does a drink come with the meal and she rudely said drinks behind you.. she didn’t say we have fountain drinks and bottled drinks, she just said drinks behind you which I thought they only had bottled drinks.. the price came up to 90 something because my daughter got the same thing as me. I spoke to the manager and she was really nice and apologetic because I was highly upset how I was treated. As customers came in I saw that they did have a menu in which the young guy could have directed me to where they were, also they had fountain drinks and tea in which the older lady could have said that as well. Overall the oxtails were really good but the customer service is not worth the drive there. I will not be back

Man that meatloaf so good I ordered another plate for work tomorrow. Macaroni perfect and the candy yams is too, they not too sweet, they just right. Yall earned yall self a faithful customer when I don’t feel like cooking 😂😂 ima update and show the plate that’s on the way.

Update: my order came and I’ll definitely be saving for lunch. They gave me a way bigger piece of meatloaf this time, and the peach cobbler was bussinnnnnn. This meal definitely gonna get me thru that 18 hr shifts tomorrow!

Had their oxtail and fish. You can tell it was cooked with love. The best I've ever had.

I had catfish, Mac/cheese/ blkeyed peas and yams. Fish was perfection, Mac/cheese and peas tasted great. Yams not so tasty. Had cheesecake for desert. Should have passed on that. Think it was boxed cheesecake mix. I will definitely come back again. Oh live music on patio area. Fantastic!!

Came from Memorial Village and the food was excellent. We enjoyed every different item we ordered. Hopefully next time the attendant working the pickup window will be more attentive to the pickup customers. We will come again.

I placed an order through Door Dash and my order was not prepared correctly. When I called and spoke to a manager she told me that the order had to be right because she prepared it. She then stated if I wanted to bring the order in she could correct it. If I wanted to drive up there I would have done that in the first place. I was joking t offered a credit or anything. This is about the 3rd time my order was incorrect so I am done.

Here’s a warm, Nicole-coded review with personality and detail:

Esther’s Cajun Café & Soul Food is hands down one of the best soul food spots I would recommend in Houston. I recently took my mom and her best friend here for a Mother’s Day/birthday celebration, and it reminded me exactly why I keep coming back.

I absolutely love the oxtails, but this visit I switched it up and got the honey chicken — so flavorful and definitely hit the spot. My go-to sides are always the cabbage and yams because they never disappoint. And if you know me, desserts matter… and theirs are always good. You can tell love goes into the food.

My favorite drink is their sweet tea with lots of lemons (trust me on this 😌), and if you’re in the mood for something a little stronger, the lemon drops are tasty too.

What I appreciate most is the feeling of the place. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the whole restaurant has this homey, down-to-earth vibe that makes you feel comfortable. It feels like good food and good people. They also have a private room for bigger celebrations or parties, which is a nice touch.

Only small thing to note — there aren’t many bathroom stalls, so just keep that in mind if it’s really busy. But overall? Definitely a Houston staple for soulful comfort food. I’ll absolutely keep coming back.
