I finally tried this place after hearing about it constantly since they opened. Eugene’s happy hour menu is one of the better ones in the River Oaks area. Fresh Gulf Oysters on the half shell are $1.25 a piece. Half a dozen is only $7.50 and a dozen is $15. The oysters were very fresh and plump. Priced at $12.95 the Calamari Dillon appears to be expensive for Happy Hour but the bartender informed me that it is a full order which normally goes for $16.45. I found the Calamari fried to perfection and was not chewy at all. The portion was quite large and is perfect for sharing. The Catfish Pieces were decent and the Boudin Balls were okay. The Mini Crab Cakes were tasty. The 4 ounce Happy Hour Angus Beef Burger is the perfect size for Happy Hour. The $7 house wine is reasonable considering that my bartender was quite generous with each pour. I had the Surf and Turf (Gulf Coast Style) for dinner. My 8 ounce Filet Mignon was cooked to my specified medium rare plus. It was one of the better steaks that I have had recently. It was very tender. There were four fried shrimps on top of the filet mignon which added to the enjoyment of my meal. My two sides were sautéed spinach and French fries. Simple. But both made my entrée very hearty. For dessert we ordered the Crème Brûlée and Hazelnut Ice Cream Affogato. The Crème Brulee was pretty standard but I really liked the Affogato. It is one of my favorite dessert items. I will order it if it’s on the menu. Eugene’s is a very pleasant and comfortable local restaurant. It is upscale but not fussy. Service is good. I will be back to try many of the other items on the large menu.
Took my 90 year old Mom in for a treat! She had the grilled catfish and the delicious sweet potatoes. I had a filet with the twice baked potato, along with the sautéed spinach. My Mom kept eating my spinach off my plate. She said that was freshest and most well prepared spinach she has ever tasted! My steak could have not been more tender. My Mom and I both loved the decor. So warm and inviting. Reminds me of New Orleans! We drove 45 mins from Sugar Land just to try it. Worth the drive! We will be back!
Love this place. I have been several times, always trying something different. Never disappointed. Also alot of places are too loud and it gets hard to have conversations (especially when I have dad), no issue here. Great atmosphere. Love the old building. I am picky with my steaks...had the beef filet a few months ago, it was cooked exactly how I asked, very juicy, didnt need a knife, had a great flavor. Father had the Debris sandwich, he said it was different but very tasty and he has ordered it several times now. We went again last weekend, I really was craving the steak but chose the pecan crusted chicken instead, again great flavor. The sauce is amazing, what was left I soaked up with the garlic bread and ate every bit. Very tasty!! Husband had Crab au gratin, same thing something about that sauce, his plate was licked clean. If you are looking for comfort with a little kick, I recommend Eugenes. I live 45 min away but it is now our once a month go to place in Houston.
Houston restaurant week menu was extremely disappointing. The gumbo is delicious but the entrees were horrible. I ordered a crab dish that was choked with cheese. I could barely find any crab. My friend had hideous lackluster broiled shrimp & oysters. Both came with rice & bread. No hint of green. Really cheap offerings.
Had high hopes for this restaurant, unfortunately, they were dashed. Our table was not ready at our reservation time and the restaurant was exceedingly warm. While the food was tasty it was not a $200 meal for 3 people that didn't drink. I was excited to dine at a restaurant with a fairly strict dress code but it is not enforced. Many people there in sports attire, shorts, women with bare midriffs and leggings.
Love Eugene's. I dine here frequently, and the food and service are always great. My favorites are the oysters on the half shell, seafood gumbo, Salmon Bianca, poblano soup, cold boiled shrimp, and the surf and turf. Their steaks are wonderful. They are grilled over oak and hickory, if I remember correctly, and are very tender and full of flavor. Prices are reasonable.
We went to Eugene's for a Saturday date night, and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We were seated at a beautiful table near the bar, which was busy but not loud, and has a very chill and friendly vibe. Started with martinis, they were icy cold and generously poured, a good signal of things to come. The 2-2-2 oyster plate was delicious and seafood gumbo outstanding. Stuffed Redfish and Shrimp Kyle with the decadent parmesan bread was yummy. The onion rings were hot and crunchy, perfection. We had a great server, ask for Jennifer. The owner Kyle Teas was in the house, making sure things ran smoothly and greeting customers. The valet parkers out front were friendly, careful, and fast. We will be back!
Best ribeye I have had in Texas, and my friends had truly terrific crabmeat au gratin and stuffed red fish, along with Caesar salad and sumptuous key lime pie. We ate in a beautiful mirrored dining room with excellent service and met the very nice owner. Highly recommended for a stellar dining experience.
I have been to Eugene's (and Danton's before the move) many times over the years. I can honestly say I have never had a poor experience and the atmosphere and food are top notch. In my opinion, the best seafood restaurant in Houston. Kyle and the entire Teas family treats you like family and they make sure the food and service are top notch. The oysters and gumbo are fantastic, and the stuffed redfish and crab Madison are really good. You can't go wrong with any of their signature dishes.
Celebrating the milestone birthday with old friends and family, and chose Eugenes for this special occasion. Always loved this space back to when it was Quasimodo’s and Mockingbird, but the life and energy breathed into in by Eugenes is at a whole other level. Food in short was fantastic and the service was impeccable. If you have a chance ask for Joseph as your server. Some of our favorite dishes were the oysters Rockefeller, fried crab fingers, the crab stuffed flounder, the grilled scallops, and the penultimate dish was the wild caught redfish topped with crab meat. Oh and the okra and tomatoes are like mom used to make. PS was a very nice touch for Kyle to come by and visit. Much appreciated and we will be back.

Eugene’s offers a excellent dining experience. The staff, ambiance and menu are exemplary! This is authentic Cajun at its best!
Food is great .. comfort food not for people on diets
Our first time there and it was quite disappointing. Four of us all felt the same about our entrees - maybe it was an off night because none of our entrees were even mediocre. I had pecan crusted chicken, both guys had redfish with crabmeat and my girlfriend had the compechano. Oddly enough, the only delicious item was a baked potato. Happy hour food was better so we may go back for that.
I'd say this is a mixed bag. The calamari and onion rings were really good, but the entrees were a bust. I was there with friends, four of us, and none of us liked or finished the entrees. The fish with crab topping smelled and tasted very fishy, if you know what I mean. So I'm guessing you are safe with anything fried, but I wouldn't recommend anything else. Very traditional and non-innovative menu. We shared a dessert and that was decent. Joseph, our waiter, was great!
It’s always great to be back at Eugene’s! we have been their customers since Danton’s. I love their Corn and Crab Bisque as well as their Seafood Gumbo. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a good celebration. The Sea Scallops and the Red Fish were cooked to perfection and the final with the Buddy’s Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice-cream was to die for! I love this place!
