Just found my new favorite sushi spot! 🍣 This was our first visit, and the sushi was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious by our standards.
It would have been even better if the sushi rice had been stickier and more tender. The texture of the rice was the only downside.
Unfortunately, the service was mediocre. We placed most of our order through the iPad, so there wasn’t much interaction with the staff. At the end of the meal, the waitress just quickly dropped the check on the table for me to sign and walked away without saying a word.
I always tip 20% for good service, and I did the same on this first visit. However, if the service is the same next time, the tip will reflect the experience. Good service deserves a good tip, and poor service deserves less.

The conveyor belt sushi concept makes dining here so interactive and enjoyable, whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or on a date night. There’s something exciting about seeing dishes pass by and picking whatever catches your eye.
The restaurant is beautiful, service was excellent, and the entire experience felt like a little trip to Japan right here in Houston.
We’ll definitely be back to try more from their menu! 🍣🇯🇵

Interesting business, 6pm, half the restaurant is empty, employees looks me dead in the eye and says “we are full i cant seat you”. Im 1 person, there are within view maybe 9 tables available and the entire bar seating available. What an odd business to refuse a single customer.
Quite unique service concept. Their usage of seasoned sushi rice makes everything taste unique. Fish was very fresh. And the appetizers tasted good too. Was not a fan of avocado salmon bites and their karaage. Not the best sushi place in houston, but certainly worth a visit

Best place for traditional and authentic sushi in Houston (with a couple good not that traditional options).

Update 5/24/26 (posted pics from a year ago):
Fish was nothing to write home about and many items on the menu were not available. Place felt stale and service was not attentive with just 1 other table occupied. I’m sad to see this place go downhill after my last visit a year ago. It’s located in a great plaza but has a long way to go before it can compete with other sushi restaurants in the Houston area and in the meantime, it’s relying on its national branding to stay afloat. I hope to see some changes soon!

Fish was fresh and delicious! Very kid friendly and peaceful atmosphere. Servers seem new and less experienced. Tablet interface could be improved as well but overall a positive experience for the family.

As someone who’s Japanese living in Texas, it’s hard to find authentic Japanese food in any city. Onodera was a pleasant surprise, after the first bite I instantly felt a familiar flavor. This place is leagues ahead of any other sushi spot in Houston. Service is excellent and the restaurant is extremely clean. Definitely will be returning.

Hands down my favorite sushi spot! High-end taste without the high-end price tag. The fish was incredibly fresh.

We have a great time at Kaiten! The experience is fun, the sushi is always fresh, and there are rotating specials all the time. The food comes out quickly, and the ordering style allows for a well paced out meal. A wonderful addition to the Houston food scene!

We arrived right at opening with our family and were told they couldn’t serve us due to lack of space, even though the restaurant was mostly empty at the time. What was more confusing was that their reservation system showed availability for a party of our size about 30 minutes later. What disappointed us most was that the staff didn’t even try to accommodate us or offer options (such as waiting a bit). The attitude made us feel unwelcome. We understand restaurants manage seating carefully, but the situation could have been handled much better.

I felt the menu was perfectly balanced, offering both authentic Japanese cuisine and popular local favorites. As a Japanese person, I was especially happy to find complimentary green tea and 'aburi' (seared) sushi on the menu.

Great quality food says it all. My family enjoyed our anniversary dinner there and we loved it! The chawanmushi was especially best in H-town!
