While in the museum district, my wife and I decided to have dinner at Lucille’s Restaurant. This was by far the best dining experience I have had in years. It started with our server, MeMe. She came by introduced herself and took our drink order. Throughout the meal she would come to our table to give a status of our appetizers, main course, and dessert orders. The appetizers of Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomatoes. Crab Cakes topped with black-eyed pea salsa and a green Hollandaise were the perfect matching. The Fried Green Tomatoes is the best I have ever eaten. The chef used seasoned cornmeal batter with spicy aioli sauce and topping of goat cheese crumbles. My wife desired shrimp and grits, but the waitress, on inquiry, informed there is a slight taste of garlic but not overpowering. I had the Blacken Catfish and grits. The waitress was correct with the garlic but would be too much for those with food allergies. My preference of blacken catfish is a little more on the blacken side, like Chef Paul from New Orleans used to do. Don’t get me wrong, the catfish and grits were superb. My wife’s second choice was the Yardbird. The slow-fried chicken smoked mashed potatoes and braised collard greens covered with peppercorn gravy. The fried chicken was exquisite, and the collard greens were again the best I have ever eaten. The cornbread was a nice accompaniment to our main course. The bourbon pecan pie was an excellent way to end our meal.

Our entire dinner had excellent presentations and tastes leaving me wondering “Why isn’t this a James Beard Restaurant?” Lucille’s has been named a finalist for this prestigious award in the past, maybe one will come.

Price point is average of restaurants of the same caliber, but they don’t match the consistency of food taste across the board.

My first restaurant in Houston and our food was delicious! Our server Mimi was just as great, she continuously checked on us, she was sweet and very attentive. Would definitely come back again!

Patronized the restaurant in October 2025 and the experience was not good. The food was almost inedible. I was underwhelmed by food items such as Catfish and Shrimp and grits lacking flavor. I've never seen tomatoes in shrimp and grits before and thought it would be interesting to try; however, I was mistaken.

We were a party of seven and the server was inattentive. I would not recommend this experience unless the recipes change.

Wanted to try this place for some time now, so I decided to bring my wife here for her birthday. I made a reservation online for Sunday 2/15 @1:30. Get to the restaurant at the time of my reservation and waited almost 30 minutes before we were seated, after having to listen to who probably was the manager talk to the host about what they were out of right in our faces. We stomach through it and get to our table. We sat almost 10 minutes before a waiter comes to see about us, and when he does it’s almost as if he rushing us to hurry up and order. Needless to say they have a following but I guess i wont be trying it because you’ll never get my hard earned money with that type of service….:wish I could give it 0 stars.

We went today and had reservation for 2pm. They was out of most of the food. My food came out really late after most of the people at the table food had already came. This was my first and last time ever going there. Didn't enjoy the place at all.

Service is slow but not horrible. I came for the brisket omelette, there was only about 2 tablespoons of gravy. Not much flavor. I was expecting to be wowed by the food and I just didn’t get that. The patio area was decent except for the constant barking dogs. Can’t say I would return.

Lucille’s was our first stop when we got settled on our trip to Houston. We sat at the bar (we didn’t want to wait bc we didn’t have reservations). I was a little confused who our waitress was, but we were at the bar, so it didn’t matter. The appetizer was great! My omelette was just right. The cornbread tasted like old fashion cornmeal/cornbread, very authentic. Good ambience.
