Stopped at Carbonero while driving back toward DFW and this place was excellent from start to finish. I ordered the Mar y Tierra plate with a 6 oz New York strip, six large grilled shrimp, mixed vegetables, and the Carbonero mashed potato pancake. Everything was cooked well, seasoned right, and the portions were way more generous than I expected.

The steak and shrimp were both flavorful, the vegetables were solid, and that mashed potato pancake was a nice surprise. They also brought out salsa and plenty of chips before the meal, so by the time I left I was completely stuffed.

The value was honestly impressive. I had the full plate, chips and salsa, plus a whiskey and Diet Coke, and the total was still very reasonable even after tipping well. Coming from DFW, this kind of meal would easily cost a lot more.

Great food, good portions, fair pricing, and a comfortable local spot. I’d absolutely stop here again if I’m passing through Huntsville.

My favorite. Papusas are only 2.99 unless you order door dash as i must do now since im unable to leave my house. Between dd charging me 5 each plus tax & fees dd also charges extra for pork & the spicy slaw. it came out to $21 for 2 papusas. I canceled & from now on I will only order directly from restaurant when i have someone to pick up for me. The papusas are phenomenal & if the restaurant price was $5 i would be good but dd charges extra $2 each & thats ridiculous

Huntsville, Texas is my hometown and home to a lot of great Mexican restaurants. But sometimes you want something different, something that still has a Latin American feel without being just another Tex-Mex option.

That’s where Carbonero comes in. I’ve been a fan of Carbonero for over ten years and have ordered a wide variety of dishes. I’ve seen some reviews complain that they didn’t like the salsa, or that the queso isn’t like other restaurants, but honestly, that’s exactly what I like about it. Carbonero is different, and it’s really good.

If you want solid advice on what to order, this is it: my family’s go-to is the “Two pupusas and chaufa rice” meal from the lunch menu (you can order it anytime). If you’re not familiar, pupusas are a pan-fried dough filled with cheese and meat (we always get the pork, but I have tried others and they are all good). The chaufa rice is similar to chicken fried rice and is very good. The plate also comes with curtido, a lightly pickled cabbage and veggie mix. If you like a little spice, ask for a cup of the green sauce and pour it over or dip the pupusas in it. There is also a white tangy sauce some people enjoy.

The service is always warm and welcoming, the food is consistently hot and excellent, and that’s why I’d go so far as to say Carbonero is my family’s top choice when eating out in Huntsville, Texas.

If you’ve never had Salvadoran food before, Carbonero is a great place to start.

We were visiting Huntsville for Sam Houston State University's new student orientation and decided to try Carbonero. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the steak/chicken combo with pupupas, a side of the rice, and the Carbonero sampler platter. Everything we had was hot off the grill and well seasoned. The server checked on us frequently, and the owner stopped by our table to ensure we were satisfied. We will definitely return to this hidden gem in Huntsville.

This establishment has what it takes to stand the test of time. The food is delicious and consistent. When you come to eat here you are sure to get an excellent meal. The service is stellar. If coming through Huntsville it is a must try!
