Black Bear Diner Reviews
I loved it here when it just opened but lately the service has been getting worse. I normally eat alone and last time I sat myself at the diner it took them a while to attend to me. Today I ordered online to-go. It said it would be ready at 10:45am. I got there at 10:50am and they told me it was going to take another 20 more minutes. I told them I couldn’t wait and asked them to cancel the order. The lady at the register told me to do it online. I looked everywhere on the confirmation...read full review
ordered the BLT. One one half was about a half slice of bacon and a pies and a half one the other. Entire sandwich only has a half of a slice of tomato. The fries were ice cold. I sent it back. No manager even attempted to touch the table. They weren't busy. The quality has been poor in McAllen Texas for about y to 8 months. I seriously doubt I will go back.
Don't waste your time. Food took forever to come out and then the biscuits and gravy were cold. On top of that, we ordered avocado toast and it was burnt to a crisp with them attempting to hide the burnt toast by spreading the avocado more than necessary. It took nearly as long for them to bring out the redone plates and with no apologies. It was so disappointing. The redone plate was still burnt and the manager tried to make excuses for it!

Black Bear Diner McAllen offers great-tasting food with distinct flavors and generous portions. The service is quick, and the atmosphere is cozy and lively, though it can be noisy during weekends. Families appreciate the kid-friendly amenities like plush toys and PJs. The diner is known for its excellent service and a variety of dishes. While wait times for food can be long, the "beary good" chicken fried steak, cheese ham omelet, and French toast are worth the wait. The diner also features large portions, perfect for those who might want to take some home. Although it can feel crowded and possibly understaffed at times, the friendly staff ensures a pleasant experience. For breakfast lovers, the huge biscuit with creamy sausage gravy is a standout, making for a satisfying meal. The diner is accessible for those in wheelchairs, and Veterans can receive discounts if they ask for them.
