We'd been on the road since 7:15 am, to get Daddy to his newest cardiologist & appt literally went til 1 pm...Needless to say, by the time we were almost back to my sister's@ Lake Naconiche, we were all starving ! We grabbed a burger& a catfish special(2 beautifully fried pieces of fish, fries, hushpuppies & Cole slaw), that was ready so quickly! My Daddy ate everything(which w/ his age/health issues is rare). 40 min on a togo order that was quoted at 15. When i ordered I was told it would come with a double order of onion rings there we 7 total. The group that was there was complaining about how long it took for their lunch while they waited to pay. One waitress was running aroubd frantic the other two looked like they could care less. The place smells like old fridge. Food tasted ok, everything else is just a nightmare.

The catfish is excellent & the brisket too. The hushpuppies are great as well as the coleslaw & beans. Service is small town friendly & LeAnn was a wonderful waitress. The cheesecake was heavenly. They deserve more than 5 stars. The catfish plate is $13.99 & kids meals are $5.00 & the cheesecake was $2.25.

Appleby Sand Mercantile This place is not one of the places to eat on or near North St. It is also not a fast food outlet. Provides the opportunity to enjoy some stick to the inners home type food. The operation is a bit different than what is on their web site. Probably because of the virus. Offering is buffet style. My lunch partner ordered the “All you Can Eat” buffet that is a few dollars more than the $10.00 cost of a selection with two vegetables. The Chicken Strips were nice. The Mashed Potatoes were even better and were made like you do at home. I would have added Garlic. Pinto Beans tasted a bit Salty but I ate them all. Still good. Hot Water Cornbread was done right and crispy. I would have liked Butter to be served with it. Perhaps it was my fault for not seeking out the Butter but did not see any available. My lunch partner enjoy his selections except for the Gumbo he failed to finish. He and I felt the Roux was not thick enough. Matter of personal taste and no other complaint. The place is clean, cool, very nice to enjoy eating with very nice customers. Do hope one day they will be able to move back to offering plate lunches and not the Buffet selections. Iced tea is part of the meal and they happily will refill your cup.
