Disappointed in the quality of everything. Peach strudel was underbaked and pale. No brown, shiny crust on anything in the store. Donuts were dry. Gingerbread man lacked flavor. Pretzel was flaccid. Everything on the shelves and in the cases looked like it was from a basic grocery store bakery section. The prices were cheap, the service was friendly, and it's a local place, but I still wouldn't bother.

Being a tourist for a day in New Braunfels, our first stop was one of the oldest bakeries in Texas... Nargelin's! We were able to park right up front, walked in, and our eyes were immediately drawn to all the scrumptious goodies behind the display counters on the left and the packaged goodies on shelves towards the right). We waited in a small line ( I understand it can get pretty busy), and mentally made a list of what we wanted to order. What made Naegelin famous is their apple strudel, so no doubt we ordered it...in addition to their sausage kolache, bear claw, and strawberry kolache. Absolutely loved the apple strudel! Fresh chunks of apples, a bit of cherry for color, and a hint of coconut. These small additions made this strudel stand out from the usual run of the mill. The bear claw was not my fave and not what I had envisioned. Presentation and taste was more along the lines of a pop tart. Besides apple strudels, they sell a variety of breads, doughnuts, cupcakes, cookies, pies, macaroons, and kolaches. Service was quick, and the ladies behind the counter were sweet.

This place is … mid at best. The front checkout girl was super kind, knowledgeable and friendly. But the pastries were very underwhelming. We tried a smiley face cookie, donut holes, and a brownie. The smiley face cookie left much to be desired. It was nothing spectacular truly a cute design. The donut holes were very thick? I’m not sure if that’s even a good way to describe them. Imagine rolling up a slice of bread into a ball and glazing it, is the best way to describe it.And at last the brownie, it was trying just a bit too hard to be good. It was SO rich it wasn’t even eatable. Too much chocolate and a bit too gooey.Perhaps it was an off day or maybe we should have came earlier in the day instead of at 2.

Pastries and service were the highlight of my visit! Staff were very friendly in helping us get the best tasting options for what we look for in baked goods.

we always love to go to this bakery. From the moment you walk in and smell that delicious scent. All the fresh made donuts, cookies, and pastries and breads. We have never bought something there that was not delicious. And the staff are always very helpful and very pleasant.

We were visiting from California and came here on Friday, 3/15 at 9:00 am and was surprised how nothing looked that fresh. Bought apple and peach strudel(soggy), maple bacon bar donut(stale). No fresh bread to buy. NOTHING like their website on what's available. We were SO disappointed.

This place was hyped up as the oldest bakery in texas but it was on par with a jack and jill. The baked goods were too doughy and it wasnt warmed up, i got home and warmed up some of it and it was still just alright. The pastries tastes like it was from a walmart. Left disapointed.

If you want a well decorated wedding cake DO NOT choose Naegelin's German Bakery as your cake vendor! Our cake tasting took place with Alexis and she was the person I corresponded with leading up to the day of our wedding. Alexis was very friendly, accommodating, and I believed she understood our vision. Unfortunately, the cake was decorated by Tammy. Tammy is a bakery employee who lacks the decorating skills needed to carry out a simple and clear request. And to be honest, she lacks any customer service skills to deal with dissatisfied customers. This is probably the reason why the bakery has Alexis handle the initial wedding cake consultation. What saved my cake was the fact that one of wedding guests took care of decorating the cake with some flowers that I had on hand. When I expressed my disappointment with the bakery both in person and through an email, I did not receive so much as a simple apology for the poorly decorated cake. That is the kind of service you'll most likely receive after you pay Naegelin's German Bakery over $300 for your wedding cake.

I know this is a classic bakery in New Braunfels, but I was honestly left disappointed. Everything seems so dry and flavorless. I expect soft cookies not crunchy dry ones I could get at Walmart. I think this place is more name than quality.

It's a great old world bakery for sure and the atmosphere reinforced that . Cozy and filled with deliciousness but no seating except two tables out front. They have everything from pastries to pies to bread to donuts but No Gluten Free options for us who have allergies ?And It's another business where the employees ask indirectly for tips.Tip fatigue is real and I find it hard to tip for someone just putting items into a bag

STALE, STALE, STALE. It’s embarrassing how many tries we’ve given this bakery since we moved to the area four years ago. We are slow learners. And we’ve sampled most of their offerings. The two things that are exceptions in our experience are the strudels and the petit fours. The rest is disappointingly not good, not fresh, poor quality.
