Tacos el Vaquero, also known as Vaquero's Cafe & Cantina, offers a new and modern dining experience with a relatively clean and shiny ambiance. The decor is cool, and the restaurant has large-paned windows providing a somewhat limited view, visible from a small portion of the dining area and the outdoor patio. The service is generally good, with attentive waiters who ensure orders are correct and quick. However, there can be occasional struggles during busy times, even with the manager's assistance.
The food at Vaquero's is decent and receives positive reviews. Their happy hour deal is attractive, with $7 house margaritas and half-price appetizers. The Volcanrita, a frozen top-shelf margarita, is a standout. The complimentary chips with salsa and creamy jalapeno sauce are very good. The queso supremo, loaded with refried beans, guacamole, crema, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese, is a hit, especially when ground beef is added. The jalapeno poppers served with chipotle crema and chicken taquitos with regular queso, pico, and sour cream are tasty and served piping hot. However, the botana nachos, described more like tostadas cut into quarters, were overcooked, though the beef and usual toppings were good.
Overall, Vaquero's provides a solid 4-star performance with reasonable prices and generous portions. The ambiance can be noisy due to the crowd, but it adds to the lively atmosphere. Despite some service concerns, the restaurant is recommended for its good food and cool decor.
