Tony's Jamaican Food

The place was clean but very empty, which should have been a sign. My partner and I were craving Jamaican food- some oxtails and rice and peas specifically. We come from NYC where the Jamaican food or any food for that matter, is NEVER a let down. However, based on the ratings and comments we decided to give this a try. Drove approximately 27minutes for what we both describe as SUBPAR food! The presentation, the smell, everything but the taste was on point. It lacked flavor and seasonings- shocking right? I know. We are both disappointed.

Parking: It’s located in a shopping center, so parking wasn’t an issue.

You know Jamaican restaurants have a few running jokes about how they are but I’ll just say rude is an understatement if this is a standard in which you treat possible customers then there is no question as to why the establishment was empty on a Saturday evening.

If you want some good food with professional service to match I’d recommend Kings and Queens Jamaican Cuisine further down the road.

STORY TIME—

Came in this evening, not my usual spot but always drive by and I was looking for about a dozen beef patties.

Nothing going on inside..a woman and her daughter running the front. Having never been here before I asked if beef patties were available.

Daughter tries to get her mother’s attention to ask to the point she is yelling “MAA” mind you she is 7 ft away.

Mother says no beef patties right now..I ask how long… the mother right there seemingly ignoring the question.

Mother (not busy) suddenly just burst out in anger for no reason at the question..talking mess in patois she thought I didn’t understand or maybe didn’t care.

Needless to say I walked out and will not ever consider spending money here. I had to be in the place no more than 2 mins for all of this to transpire. Never again…

I ordered the oxtail plate today via Uber Eats. I stopped going to Tony's because the oxtails started to lack seasoning BUT today I decided to try them out again. The oxtails were deliciously seasoned!! They were full of meat and didn't have a lot of fat. Based on what I had today, I could literally order them twice a week! Whoever did the oxtails today, hat's off! I will be placing more orders in the near future!

It's legit, and that's one of the best compliments that I can give any Caribbean spots here in Texas. With that being said, it is one of the top ones that I have found in my Texas travels. Portions were nice, and the flavor was popping. Only with they had a full dessert menu when I stopped by

Hi, I want tell you something that I went to the order oxtail is leftover (old) and no good the cabbages and rice are melt. I am very disappointed Today.

Ordered from GrubHub today and everything was delicious. Highly recommend their goat dishes and oxtail. Fried plantains and steamed veggies were delicious too. Will order again!

Tbh I'm highly disappointed in this food, came all the way from San Antonio to try this place and Im convinced that Texas dont have a clue what real island food taste like. The red snapper was definitely not given authentic island fish, and the brown stew chicken was dry, never have I ever had brown stew chicken with no juice/ gravy/ stew...The sour sop Juice is the only reason I gave stars.. ?

This was my first time eating at Tony’s. They are not friendly. They did not give me the cocoa bread I purchased for $3. The food was not that good to me.

This is probably my 5th or 10th visit idk who’s keeping count lol .. but baby the food is amazing. I have tried it all. Jerk wings, Jerk Chicken, Oxtails, Currie, beef Pattie’s , sweet bread .. but my most favorite is rice and beans on my goodness. I need the recipe.

I grew up in NY and I love Jamaican food. Food was tasty but did lack some flavor. Overall it wasn't bad.

I'm on vacation in Austin, staying at a hotel. Searched for a Caribbean restaurant and found Tony's. The experience was great from the phone call, the person was vibrant and patient. I went in and she was pleasant(slim girl in glasses). As for the meal... WOW was scrumptious. I had oxtail/jerk chicken combo and my lady had fried fish. We were not disappointed. Whenever I'm in this area again i definitely will be visiting.
