Good food, pleasant service, relaxed atmosphere, and terrace seating in great weather makes for a perfect afternoon in Salado, Texas.

We had 5 different plates, and all of the meals were cold. The taste was off. We spent most of the meal without drink refills. I’ve had better experiences here in the past, but this last experience will keep us out of there for a while.Update 11/11/23: We decided enough time had passed that we would give Rio Salado a try again. Big mistake! We arrived at 5:50p on 11/11/23. We were brought chips and salsa pretty quickly but did not get our drinks ordered for 15 mins... Which the drink order was taken by the hostess. Finally, our waitress showed up. She took our order. We then proceeded to sit there for over an hour without getting our food. After an hour and 15 mins, the waitress did come tell us that our drinks would be free but at that point we were done. We cancelled our order and left. There were several other families that had been there longer than us without food. When we left, all the other families left as well. This is a poor operation and as much as I love local businesses, this one is bad. I'm sure the waitresses/waiters are missing out on tips because of how poorly this business is run. I do not believe it is the wait staff's fault. They do not have the support that they need. We never saw a manager or anyone walking around trying to make things better for any customer. Never again! Stay away!

Op zaterdag einde middag anderhalf uur moeten wachten op het eten. Toen kwam de serveerster ons vertellen dat het nog een half uur zou duren. We zijn vertrokken. De nacho en dip / appetizer hoefden we niet te betalen.

I hate writing bad feedback on local establishments but whatever is going on has to stop. I’m not sure what happened to this restaurant. The foods taste so bad now. They’re also made wrong. Maybe a new chef? The refried beans and burritos were over-salted. I ordered my usual (the Eagle bowl) and the meat was over cooked/chewy, pico was old, and the bowl was smothered in salsa verde. It wasn’t close to what it’s supposed to be. It took 30 minutes for our drinks to come out and an hour for the food. We asked for silverware and it took them 15 minutes to get them to us. We never got refills for chips, salsa, and water. By the time we could finally dig in, my food was cold. The margaritas are in smaller glasses now, yet the price of everything is still the same. For the service and quality of food, this place is way overpriced. There are few choices for food in Salado, and it’s unfortunate that this one will be one I will not revisit.

Great environment however, the service was not good. We waited over an hour for our food when our food arrives. It was cold and all we ordered was avocado, toast, and a beef fajita taco and everything was cold.

Spending 25 bucks for a enchilada plate, special corn, and a drink was not worth the money for just myself. Food was ok, Service was great, prices are too much for the portions and

Mmmmm I love this place! This is one of our two favorite places to eat in Salado. Everything from the chips and salsa, margaritas (Luxardo Cherry is my favorite,) the main courses (I particularly like the customizable enchiladas with grilled shrimp and cheesy rice as sides,) to dessert (ice cream taco!). They don't have a large menu, but it's very unique and delicious. My granny, who would eat Mexican food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if she could, said it's one of the best Mexican restaurants she's been to. Definitely worth a try.

Chips and salsa were good, and the taco salad was good too. I liked it all. And the staffs were kind enough. Thanks.

Unimpressed. Wasted time. We came bc we heard they made some good changes. The same employees who were waiting tables had their own table where they were also eating meals. It took 35 minutes for tacos and soup. With only ONE other table in the restaurant when we ordered. And tasted completely different. You can see the inconsistencies in our two soups from the photo.Tables who has more people that came in after us left before us bc our service was that slowI wanted to like them but I just can't. It was a waste.

The waitress helped me pick a dish which was the right pick for me! The Eagle Bowl plus tortillas on the side. - I tried beef and chicken as my protein, to me the avocado, jalapeño sauce, and beef is what made it! Would order again (but just go with beef). ??

AC does not work inside the restaurant. Have ate here for the last three weeks on a weekly bases and the restaurant is getting worse from a heat perspective. Talked to the manager and waitresses and they continue to say the AC is being worked on. Staff seemed hot but trying to put on a smile. Staff needs a raise for working in these conditions. Hope this gets to the owners so they can mitigate this issue for their customers and staff. Thanks, Daniel

I can’t say anything bad about my experiences! I have been here a few times and felt it necessary to finally pass my thoughts….The food is always amazing! I can literally live off of their trio salsa, queso, and guacamole dip. I’ve tried their chicken and steak quesadillas. Those were so filling I had to take the rest home and tasted just as good as new when I put them in the oven the next day for lunch. My bartender never ceases to amaze me… I always ask her to surprise me and she does! I plan to come back and try every item on the menu! Keep up the good work Rio Salado…

Kid-friendliness: Serene outdoor setting with a fireplace to warm you in the cold and a playground for the kids to play in. I’d feel comfortable taking my kids here to relax and let them have a good time.

Parking: In the heart of beautiful Salado next to entertainment and farmers market!

Food was great, our server was very friendly. They were out of some sauces on the menu but otherwise had plenty of options. Only downside to my experience was that it was a slow day, so the servers were sitting in a table behind ours and I could see them watching and then mocking other guests.

We had dinner here while visiting the area. It is a small restaurant, but does have the ability to handle larger parties, as we had a party of 8. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We had the queso blanco dip and guacamole as appetizers, both were quite tasty. However, once our main entrees were delivered, things quickly changed. All the adults in our party agreed that our entrees were very bland. I personally had a quesadilla with fajita chicken and the chicken had almost no flavor. I had the street corn as a side with my meal and other than the overwhelmingly large pieces of cilantro in the corn, there was really no other flavor. My party also had the enchiladas, the La Jefa tacos, and the refried beans and all agreed the flavors were all extremely underwhelming. I will say their frozen margaritas looked great (our neighboring table ordered several), but cannot speak to how they taste as we didn’t try them. We had high hopes for this restaurant to be a great addition to the Tex-Mex cuisine in this area, but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be returning.
