Kelly and Wasey made me and my mothers night. It was our second time dining in, and luckily we got kelly again. One of the most attentive and personable servers I've ever had. The menu had just changed and Wasey called us to confirm we were aware of the menu changes, with those changes it was still a phenomenonal menu. Cannot wait to have another amazing experience soon. Highly recommend the lobster toast and tuna tartare. 10/10.

KNOW WHAT YOU’RE WALKING INTO

I hadn’t been to Battalion in about 5 years or so for a birthday so I wanted to come back since there wasn’t really a newer restaurant in this tired city for me to try.
Service? 10/10, the atmosphere and aesthetic? 10s across the board.
The food…. Y’all.. the food. I do appreciate the family style aspect of sharing plates and blasé, blasé, however I expected pasta and definitely received an experience.
The quality of the food looked amazing however the taste was not there. It felt like something was missing in almost every dish we tried other than the kebabs and “meatballs”
Everything else had a faint taste of pencil shavings and minimal to no salt factor.
Would not mind going back; but they need to figure out that menu first.

Original Battalion menu is 5/5 but they were doing a FEAST menu which was not as good. Everything is à la carte. Lamb kabobs were delicious. Iceberg wedge was really good. Burger was average. Fries were soggy. Carrots lacked flavor. Two people in my party got the burger and the waiter didn’t know which burger was medium and which was medium well when they brought them to the table. They ended up giving each person the wrong burger. Old fashioned was delicious.

Battalion is delicious. Came to try the feast menu, it was also great. Spinach dumplings, beets and mascarpone also so good. Our server, Kelly, was fantastic and attentive!

We reserved a night for two, expecting Italian food, and we got a whole different menu from a sister restaurant. We immediately walked out, as nothing on the menu looked appealing at all

It was a special occasion and we went out of our way to go to Battalion since we absolutely loved it last time. We got to our reservation a little late, so we did have to wait around 35 mins. That was fine, we got a complimentary drink to compensate.

The problem was when we sat down the menu was completely different. We were talking about and craving the italian cuisine that we had the first time we came. The ‘Feast’ menu was introduced again. Needless to say, it just was not good. Server was great, he explained the menu very well to us.

Honestly, I was just disappointed with the change in menu. The food wasn’t bad, but why would I go to this place instead of in-n-out? Might be a bit dramatic but it’s true. It was expensive for the quality of the food, i’ll put it that way. Battalion was delicious, and the menu was perfect. Not sure why they decided to take something so good away.

Hope they can bring back Battalion; as it was one of my favorite places downtown.

We had a reservation at 8 and we weren't seated till 45 minutes later. The hostess barely glanced at us and then asked us to wait for our table. To our unfortunate surprise, the menu was completely different and the place is now called feast. 20 dollars for a mid burger (with overcooked meat and burnt buns), the cheese meatballs that were also overcooked and for the price just lacked flavor. We wanted to order more stuff but after those two we decided it was not worth the expense. Please bring back the Batallion Menu it was perfection and this just isn't it. 4/10

I’ve tried giving Battalion another chance, but the customer service is consistently disappointing. A couple of years ago, I left a negative review after a hostess was extremely rude, and we ended up in a verbal altercation where she even flicked me off. I had hoped things had changed.

Tonight, I saw on the news that they were bringing back the Feast Menu, so I assumed brunch or expanded options were returning. I called to make a reservation for tomorrow at 2 PM, and once again the hostess was rude and dismissive. When I asked about a 2 PM reservation for brunch, she sarcastically replied, “We open at 5 PM.” Then when I asked if they were doing brunch, she said, “No, we’re only doing the dinner menu,” again with attitude.

Like I was supposed to magically know their hours of operation especially when the Feast Menu was known for brunch. A simple, polite explanation from the beginning would’ve been enough.

Instead, I got the same unprofessional behavior I experienced years ago.

This is exactly why I will never return to Battalion, and I will continue to share my experience with friends, family, and anyone who asks. The food may be good, but the service is consistently horrible and that’s enough to keep me away for good.

We had the Feast menu and it was just as amazing as I remember! The restaurant itself is so beautiful, Sarah was delightful. Definitely have to make it back.

Battalion, which is located on Alamo Street in Southtown, San Antonio, TX, is an absolutely fantastic Italian restaurant! I recently visited for the first time with my boyfriend + my parents, and we had the best experience!! :-) First, the atmosphere is so lovely (regardless of where you sit in the restaurant). The downstairs vibe is romantic & intimate, and the upstairs setting really embodies the feel of a historic firehouse! Their menu is so wonderful, too. In terms of cocktails, I highly recommend The Arsonist (if you're into tequila-based drinks) - it has a little heat + so much flavor.

Regarding their food, everything we ordered was SO good!! I tried several of their dishes, including the: (1) Bread Service with Roasted Garlic Olive Oil, (2) Burrata, (3) Winter Squash Salad, (4) Pear Salad, (5) Ravioli alle Noci, and the (6) Cacio e Pepe. Everything we ordered had small, manageable portions, so it made it easy to share several plates amongst our group. We are so glad we did this, because we each got to taste so many of their plates - a little bit of everything from appetizers, to salads, to pastas! For dessert, their take on tiramisu completed our meal so perfectly. Lastly, the staff at Battalion are so fabulous - they really made our experience all the better. Shout-out to Wasey & Alec, who were both so lovely - we so appreciate everything you both did to make our dinner experience so wonderful! We are so looking forward to coming back, Battalion!
