I look forward to dining here every time we come to San Antonio. The food and the service are consistently wonderful. I was in town for a conference and recommended it to others who had an equally pleasing experience

Great authentic Mexican restaurant off the beaten path. Hot sauce, queso flameado, margaritas, and fajitas were all excellent!

First Impressions: The restaurant's ambiance immediately transports you to a Mexican villa, with plenty of foliage and a charming stone floor. The personnel are courteous and welcoming, setting a positive tone for the evening.

Drinks: I enjoyed two margaritas—a regular and a Sangria. Both were refreshing and strong, perfect for unwinding.

Appetizer: We started with the shrimp ceviche cocktail appetizer. It was very good, featuring a delicious shrimp cocktail sauce garnished with slices of fresh avocado and crackers on the side.

Main Courses: My mom ordered the fish tacos, which were generously portioned and filled with fresh, delicious mahi mahi. I opted for the ribs from the Parillada. The ribs were excellent—not overly greasy, well-seasoned, and incredibly tender, with the meat practically falling off the bone.

Special Moment: The Mariachis sang a happy birthday song to my wife, creating a lovely moment that she truly enjoyed.

Overall Experience: Given the excellent service and delicious food, I would definitely return to this location to try other dishes and drinks. It's highly recommended for celebrating special occasions or just for casual dining.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars While the service and food were outstanding, the large number of flies hovering over our table and landing on some of our plates was a significant downside. It was very hot, and the restaurant should consider implementing measures to deter flies, as there are many effective solutions available.

When I’m in SAT I go here for my first meal. The food is magnificent and authentic. The service is world class (spoken by a man who travels the world) - Jill this means you! Wonderful and fun atmosphere for the fam, date, or business lunch dinner. But those margaritas though! No it’s not downtown - who cares go here.

Have loved attending La Fogata for decades, however, it seems like it has truly gone downhill over the past few years. I would love to say that the margaritas are consistently good, but now they're just OK to the bottom side of good. The food I ordered, grilled shrimp with all the trimmings, looked beautiful, but tasted not so much. The texture of the shrimp was worse than overcooked. Past rubbery and almost rockhard. Temperature was moderate to OK, which would indicate it sat under heat lamps for quite some time. The vegetables were soft and mushy, indicating they were overcooked. Other plates at our 5% table were OK, at best. You would think it would be hard to mess up simple cheese, enchiladas, but they clearly sat for some time and we're scorched. The case of lame auto to start the meal was fantastic, as it is cooked tableside and truly hard to mess up. Tortillas, however, sat on our table for a good 15 minutes or so, cooling, before the rest of the appetizer was served. Perhaps this restaurant, like so many others, is going through a staff shortage so they don't have enough people to truly take care of their customers. Perhaps our server had too many tables in their section and could not devote enough attention to us. Perhaps it was something else. At the end of the day, it was a little disappointing to recommend one of my favorite restaurants, two out of town, friends, and then have them experience the subpar dining experience. I truly hope this was a one off anomaly, but I've seen this take place over the past 2 to 3 years. I miss the La Fogata from 10, 15 and 20 years ago.

This is a truly incredible restaurant to visit. I enjoyed some nachos and a tasty Top Shelf Margarita with lovely company to match the cool night. Mariachi music and attentive staff was only a drop in the glass of a great dining experience. Our server Monica was busy but did her best to accommodate our requests and many questions. This a beautiful location with plenty of outside seating with drinks available if there’s a long waitlist for seating. The parking is ample, with an addition restaurant parking lot located across the street. The lighting and the atmosphere is bright and uplifting, with bright place settings, tables, and chairs. I visit La Fogata every time I come to San Antonio, and it never disappoints.

Location and restaurant set up is great. Service not good. 10 minutes to take initial drink orders for our table and there were mistakes. Observed waitstaff standing around not getting to us prior to that, there were empty tables. Waitstaff need more training. Had to request water refill, and chip refill with fresh, unbroken chips. Food was good. It's a shame.

Always great service, lively and fun. The mariachis are always the best part of the night along with the amazing corona margaritas.

This is the worst Mexican food we've ever eaten. We were a party of eight and all agreed the meat was inedible. It's very low quality. The chicken was rubbery. The pork carnitas super fatty and flavorless. I actually ordered another entree - stuffed chipotle pepper because it was so unappetizing. Ribs were gross. The meat all tasted off, like it had been prepared well after an expiration date. The only protein we didn't try was seafood. The rice was pretty tasty. Salsa tasty. Guacamole isn't fresh. It's made from packaged avocado and has that gross green color. Drinks were good, presentation is nice. Atmosphere is fun and service was great, everyone was friendly, but the food being so bad really ruined it. My husband said that's the first time in the last thirty years he's left a meal untouched on a plate. It wasn't even like we could send one thing back; it was all bad. I normally don't leave reviews but, please spare yourself. There are SO many great options for Tex-Mex in SA. We were in town for a graduation so we picked this based on a recommendation, not having eaten there. We all left having lots of chips and salsa and not a lot of food. For sure no protein off our plates. Find a different spot to dine, unless you're just going for cocktails.

Took advantage of Tuesday night BOGO "Un Poquito de Todo" offer. Great value, great food! Great margaritas too!

I should have known better than to go to one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio on a Mother's Day. The menu was limited, and none of my go to meals was on the limited menu. The margaritas were really great as always. I will have to rethink my dining plans when in SAT. I hope this was an anomaly and not business as usual.

The ambience is amazing, and the service is fine. However, the food it bland with no seasoning.

Returning to a place we used to frequent 10 years ago and more... did not disappoint. Great margs for a reasonable price, food was excellent. A very nice evening. Service was good; however, our waiter dropped the bill off for signing and took off- a “many thanks, I hope you enjoyed it” would have topped off the evening.

The service was poor. Our waitress did not check on us not even once. The food was burnt or oil drenched. I will not be returning.
