upon dining in the first thing i noticed was the awkward service it felt like our server was reading off a script, the forced tone and smile were uncomfortable, which to me indicate a lack of training. i would expect a restaurant that seems to take itself as seriouly as this to be able to deliver a hospitality experience of higher quality (sidenote: the music was awful it was a cold rainy morning and the playlist lacked cohesion and was same few upbeat songs on repeat, this wont make or break a place but i thought id mention since they are relevant to the atmosphere) . we ordered the gorditas which were not bad but nothing you cant get anywhere else in a much more comfortable environment. we also received an order of totopos, the whole burnt chip idea isnt for me since its unnecessarily bitter and theres already a much nicer smokiness in the salsas. to be fair all four salsas were very tasty and flavorful, the best part of the meal. my table ordered the pollo al carbon en mole verde and the carnitas, the food arrived about 30-40 minutes later ( as was warned in the menu) and we received the carnitas and pork belly en mole verde. it was very disappointing considering the wait time and the food being cold. i let the server know that was not what i ordered and that unfortunately i was unable to wait for a replacement. (keeping in mind the 30-40 minutes we waited for the porkbelly). she responded by saying the porkbelly had been on the news. i tasted the mole and a piece of porkbelly to see if maybe i could make do with what i got. unfortunately the mole verde was very lacking in flavor and salt, being from mexico city ive had lots of mole verde and this one was very disappointing. the porkbelly was even worse, chewy skin, lack of flavor, cold upon arrival. the rice was fine and i just didn't bother withthe three green beans, ive tasted plain blanched green beans before and im sure theyre not enough to save this underwhelming plate. so we set it aside virtually untouched since the single small taste of the components was enough to let us know its not worth eating. at no point did our server offer to comp or even discount this plate we didnt order and didnt eat, a standard practice for any restaurant upscale or not, once again highlighting the lack of training and poor hospitality of this place. the carnitas were like the gorditas in that you can get them anywhere else at the same quality but with more comfortable service better portions and better prices, a recurring theme of this restaurant. not sure what could be done for me to want to eat here again with how thoroughly disappointed i was by the hospitality and food, a great shame since im a cook by profession, passionate about mexican food, i live a few blocks down the road and i was hoping nixtamali could be a place i frequent and recommend to people when asked where to get good mexican food.

Exceptional! Highly recommend this place for excellent food, superb service, and the best passion fruit margarita I’ve ever had! Andrea was our server and helped us pick out tasty dishes and drinks. We felt welcome and never rushed. Highly recommend the nopalito salad and tuna tacos! Added bonus: they have loads of happy hour deals on food and drink.

We are from out of town and were looking for a good Mexican restaurant so went to Eater and found this Nixtamali. First. The servers were polite but overly eager because there was nobody else there. Second. We asked for recommendations and we were recommended everything. Third: they have a great freebie of salsas and beans the salsas were great but the tostadas were stale and chewy. For a place that calls itself Nixtamali, corn should be the ultimate ingredient and respected. Fourth: the food was meh. Not bad. Not excellent. Too bad. Great idea extremely poor execution. Our driver warned us. But we decided to believe Eater. Don't.

The carnitas plate is good. Needed a bit of salt, possibly more sazon, but ok. Beans with salchicha are not bad.
A true poem, the green mole, delicious, I will definitely return from Mexico for this dish ♥️ the perfect chicken….. beautiful presentation!!

Good intentions that hopefully can improve. Came here excited to try authentic food. The recipes are authentic to mexico, but the "sazón" still needs fine tuning. Service was fine but slow.

I don’t know if they were having a bad day in the kitchen but the food was awful. We ordered tacos de pollo y ribeye and the mole flautas. All of it was over seasoned and dry. The chicken was like biting cardboard, flavorless and the texture was off. The ribeye was over salted and not edible. I was expecting the tortillas to taste a lot more like something homemade but they were greasy and spongy. The totopos followed the pattern of over salted, overcooked and stale. I had high hopes as a first time customer and let the staff know the food was below subpar especially in San Antonio. But they did nothing to ameliorate the disappointment. This is overpriced food that isn’t worth the money you pay.
