I thought we were going to really enjoy this place. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were having an off day. All I know if the appetizer of ceviche was very tasteless and tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for hours. The salsa was very strange tasting no flavor but bubbly like if they put mineral water in it. Probably not a good sign my agua fresca was so watered down I got the watermelon one and it tasted like water with a hint of watermelon. I’m not trying to be rude or put down the restaurant but I must be truthful in hopes they will put more effort into the dishes they serve. They have potential but I’m not sure what happened this time.
Good food, drinks and server...will definitely come back! NB: They didn't have my Open Table reservation (on the one night I forgot my phone), but fortunately a table was available. If you need a reservation, I'd call just to be on the safe side.

Balcon has a lovely location atop a new building on the south side of San Marcos. We had a reservation, and was promptly seated. Food was delicious, and cocktails were delicious. Our server was attentive to allow our conversation to happen. We were upset that our table was set that we were fighting the setting sun for the 2 hours we were there, despite reservations 3 weeks in advance. The ambience made a reunion with conversation difficult, but if the doors had been open to the air and the balcony open (102 degrees outside) it would have been better. I would return again.
First time to eat here and it was more than we expected. An absolute hidden gem! Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. And the food was so amazing! Great food combinations and the food was so flavorful. We will definitely be back.

Food was great, nice quiet place to enjoy a drink ?. Very limited bar selection but still did great with what they had. Also hard to find the entrance. When you do, it's worth it. We will be back.

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience here. The air conditioning struggled to keep the space cool, and if you are seated at the bench seat underneath it, you get dripped on.
It is very loud, and that makes it hard to hear what the server is saying. That may have contributed to the wrong food issue we had.
It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our food.
If you sit indoors, you are served a small glass of room temperature water that they are slow to refill. If you sit outdoors, you are served tall glasses of ice water. I don’t know how quickly they refill water outdoors.
We ordered the salsa sampler. The salsas were good, but the tortilla chips were not chips. They were quarters of corn tortillas that had been placed in frying oil for a bit . They were oily and chewy instead of crisp.
Two in our party ordered enchiladas verdes. The rice and beans were flavorless and cold, and the chicken was very dry.
One in our party ordered the surf and turf quesadilla. When it arrived, it looked more like a taco, so I asked if she was sure it was the quesadilla? She said yes, the quesadillas are open. Later, she said it was actually not the correct item and that they were making the quesadilla. She offered it to us packaged to go, but it was not ready by the time we left.
My taco al pastor was great.

We love this place. The food preparation is consistent; the chefs have really settled into a groove. The menu is not Tex-Mex but more like central Mexico or Baja, and the prices are reasonable. On Friday night, they were slammed by Texas State University summer commencement celebrations but it was nice to see graduates celebrate together with their parents. The staff did a good job of handling large groups. It was my wife's birthday, so we just partied with the rest of them.
BALCON Comedor y bar offers an excellent dining experience. The food was superb, with flavors that truly impressed. The margarita was amazing in taste, though a bit small for the price. The location is right next to a busy street and train tracks, so it can get quite noisy at times, which might not be ideal for a quiet dinner. The restaurant wasn't very crowded during my visit, raising some concerns about its long-term viability. Nonetheless, it's worth a visit for the delightful food and drinks. Here's hoping more people discover this hidden gem!
