Texan Cafe & Pie Shop in Taylor is a good local restaurant known for classic country comfort food. The food is excellent, comforting, fresh, and always flavorful. The menu is nice and varied, with great appetizers like bottlecaps with jalapeño ranch, tons of entrees, vibrant and delicious salads, and a nice kid's menu. The chicken fried steak is actual steak and pretty damn tasty, served with cream gravy, Mashers, and broccoli casserole. The charbroil burgers are juicy, and the chicken sandwich is especially great. Other options include BLTs, club sands, meatloaf, liver n onions, chicken noodles, and hamburger steak with onions and brown gravy. The pies are good, especially the skillet pies, with a large variety including Apple or cherry. The hot Skillet cherry pie is served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and covered with a brandy sauce. Service is usually pretty great and extremely accommodating. The atmosphere is inviting, though not as cozy as the Hutto location. Prices aren't too bad, and portion sizes are still very good.
