Going in you need to know there is no menu. Food is served family style, and is fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, turnip greens, black eyed peas and mashed potatoes with gravy. There are a couple of other things you can request, coleslaw for one, I don’t remember the others. There are circus posters everywhere - originals, some from as far back as 1914 - that belong to someone’s collection. The food is delicious - the chicken actually comes with some biscuits and corn muffins. The biscuits were hard and cold and not very good, the corn muffin was good and not sweet, as some are, but all in all, great food and we would definitely go back. There is an old time “town” to walk through and a gift shop, but we didn’t have time to visit these.

Most people leaving negative. reviews apparently have little or no familiarity with "country honenstyle cooking" from this area. We dont eat (or make) "pillow dumplings". That's a northern or "pretend home cooking". Noodles aren't really noodles, they're thin sliced strips of dough, different in taste and texture from noodles. The fried chicken is always a hit, but it's not something we normally order when eating out. I've never had bad veggies or bad peach cobbler. Yhe only thing I don't vare for are the hreen limanbeans, but I don't ever like those (even when my grandma made them. Well worth stopping by if you're in the area.

My wife and I stopped off for lunch on a trip from Dallas to Beaumont. This is an all you can eat family service style restaurant. The price for lunch is very reasonable. The fried chicken, as many reviews say, is very good. The sides vary in quality. Horrible mashed potatoes with gravy, over-cooked greens, very good pinto beans, okay coleslaw, and good pickled beets--if you like beets, that is. Another main course is chicken & dumplings, which is mediocre at best. Skip for more fried chicken. Two marginally thumbs up, mostly for the fried chicken. Were we passing through and looking for lunch, we'd try one of the other high-rated places in Woodville.

We went here as a couple on a Tuesday, arriving shortly after 11am. There were two other couples there, otherwise the place was empty. While we were there, they seated a large tour group in the party room. The staff behind the counter and our server were excellent and welcoming. The vintage circus poster decor was very interesting. However, the food, as a whole, left something to be desired. The fried chicken, was good, hot and fresh, but certainly not the best I had ever had. The sides were just ok, but lacked much flavor. The Lima beans were under-cooked and hard. The slaw was basically shredded cabbage without any flavor. The chicken and “dumplings” was basically chicken and noodles. The “fresh” rolls and cornbread were hard and dry. For the finish, we had high hopes for the homemade peach cobbler. One serving was just ok, and the other serving was terrible, sour and without any taste. We didn’t go away hungry, as we had plenty of the fried chicken, but left a bit disappointed in the overall food quality…definitely not living up to all the hype.
