Stopped into Duffy’s Tavern for a quick beer and ended up closing the place down. My girlfriend and I were visiting for the weekend and decided to have a night out — this spot did not disappoint. We grabbed some beers, played darts, and absolutely dominated the pool tables. The vibe was laid-back and welcoming, and we met some great people throughout the night.

Since we’re not from the area, I’d say this place is a true hidden gem. Perfect local bar energy, friendly crowd, and a great time all around. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun night out in Salt Lake.

Bartender ruined it for me. He demanded a tip after handing me a Coors. Who does that? Absolutely garbage establishment to have people like that working there. I used to work the bar scene for years here in Utah. Absolute disgrace

Went here for the first time as I'm new to the city and a group of coworkers and I wanted to meet for dinner and football. I got a quick shot as i wanted to browse the menu as I waited for my group so I paid in cash to keep it simple, and I said keep the change. I was immediately given attitude about not giving more tip on a sub $5 poured shot. I was about to have a group of coworkers meet me here from out of town for dinner but I'm now texting them that we should eat and drink elsewhere after the attitude I was given from the long haired Caucasian male bartender with the tie died tshirt. As a new city resident who was looking for a repeat local go-to business, and a traveling professional who is a foodie and experience reviewer for all around the country and beyond, I'll be sharing my story to others about here and I'm definitely not coming here again.

They won’t serve you any more if you don’t tip once. My friend got $7 worth of drinks (mind you all the guy had to do was twist the cap off two beers and pour 1 drink from a spout) and didn’t tip because money is short… when she handed him the money he said “that’s it?” She said yes and he goes, “well I don’t work for free”. When I went back up to order with the intention of getting more drinks and tipping, we were turned down.
In case you haven’t heard Duffys, tipping is optional and based on the quality of service. And you aren’t working for free when you’re getting paid to be there. Sorry you consciously picked a job that pays you less than minimum wage.

My first time in tonight.

Really solid spot. Had a good time with my friends. I didn't try the food. Which is why I put one star on the food, but five stars as a review.

The bartenders were nice and friendly. No AC, but wasn't too hot. The vibes from the decor are super cool and the patrons were really nice as well.

Thanks!

Won't be back. No A/C and zero acknowledgement from the bartenders unless you are a regular. I sat with an empty beer glass for 20 minutes before I finally had to ask for another. I used to like this place but the vibe here is way off.

First time coming to this place, and I had a blast. I stopped to watch the staff work at one point and was surprised at how efficient they were. I didn't wait for a drink longer that 30 second. I stopped each staff member to give them props and catch their names. Emily, Knotty, Kelvin and String Bean. I hope I spelled them right. At the end of the night I was really happy with my tab amount. Picture is the main sitting area and bar in the back pool tables to the right, then there is a back terrace to the left.

Haven’t had the food but I did have the 2$ coors banquets and played pool. Cant beat that. Great dive bar. Dawg is a great doorman as well. Lovely atmosphere. Bathroom could be dirtier but that’s okay.

Duffy’s is a great spot for some pool, a smoke on the back porch, or some delicious and reasonably priced sandwiches. But I’ve had a couple interesting experiences with the employees that have left a bad taste in my mouth. Not worth getting into all of them, but chief of them all was this:
One February night a few months ago, me and my friend rode bikes through a rainstorm on a Tuesday night quest to Duffy’s. After a long and miserable ride, we arrive, soaked to the bone, at Duffy’s in high spirits with the prospect of warm pastrami sandwiches and a Banquet stubby in our gullets. I order two stubbies, (2$ each) and hand the bartender a fiver and tell him to keep the change. This man (who looks like a Bozeman hipster decided to make a contrived transition into what he thinks a metalhead or punk looks like) gives me a scowl as if I have insulted his entire bloodline and says “Cool, now I won’t serve you.” while turning around and walking away. I stood there confused for a moment, then dig into my wallet for another dollar and hand it to him. He accepts it greedily and says “Thanks, you’re no longer cut off.”

This moment brought me into a state of reflection, and I thought long and hard about my actions. I had disrespected this paragon of virtue, nay, HERO, by giving him a mere 25% tip. The audacity I had to undermine his hard work of twisting open two bottles in a mildly populated night was utterly disgraceful on my part. I am a firefighter, and I could never imagine the strenuous nights that this poor soul has to endure while working with his friends at an establishment full of friendly and lively people. I will never commit such a transgression again. I am sorry Duffy’s.

(In all seriousness, that hipster contrarian can take a long drag on my grundle. Get real, guy. Almost all my other Duffy’s experiences have been legit.)

I love coming here but last night was probably my last, about 5 minutes after I ordered and closed my tab, the bar tender came and found my table and ASKED for more of a tip… What a complete joke. Never once have I ever had a bartender come and find me and ask for more of a tip. All he did was twist the cap off and wanted $5 extra dollars. My entire table was shocked as well..
