We were so excited as a family to have El Cholo come to Salt Lake City. We have gone once and really enjoyed the meal. I loved the coconut margarita! The only thing I would say is that it is exspensive for Mexican food. I know food costs have gone up a lot but it's not the kind of place I would frequent often only special occasions.

Found the food here to be absolutely DELISH. For those concerned about the price point, the food meets that expectation in my opinion. Nice to see another authentic restaurant with history in SLC! Truly love the artwork & the staff was very attentive. Will definitely eat here

El Cholo is my favorite Mexican restaurant! I discovered it when visiting my sister in Los Angeles and every time I went back to California I would hit up El Cholo. I was so excited to hear that this eatery opened up in Utah. The experience from the server, the ambience and the food did not disappoint, it was all top notch! The filet mignon tacos are insanely delicious!

Food is over priced for quality! Quantity doesn't make up for fresh flavorful food. I had the chimichangas which are not very flavorful! They were a bit greasy from being in the oil to long and the chicken tomato cheese filling lacked seasoning. The tiny dollop of guacamole didn't go very far to help flavor the food. Not impressed at all with what this California chain Mexican restaurant.

Underwhelmed by my expensive mole dish. Liked the decor, but none of the five of us will rush back.

Start with the tableside-prepared Guacamole Molcajete (order it spicy), then go to the Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas, and you will understand, in part, why this place has been frequented by celebrities for 100 years at its L.A. location. Who? (Clark Gable, Jack Nicholson, Madonna, Paul & Linda McCartney, the Beach Boys, Magic Johnson, etc.) Service was top-notch (thank you, Gladys)! I don't understand reviews that say the food was bland or overpriced. Go back to Cafe Rio and choose your protein and stand in a line, for crying out loud...

We were expecting fresh made entrees, but when your food comes out less than 5 mins after ordering you know it's premade and reheated. It was Not anywhere close to the El Cholo experience in Laguna beach.

This restaurant has been a part of my family since it first opened in Los Angeles on Western Ave. Now it is here in SLC. Same outstanding food and service as the original restaurant. Truly a 5 star experience

Unfortunately, this placed is not a good fit for my tastebuds. While the service and ambiance are good, the food was lacking severely. I had Combo #2, which comes with a beef taquito and a cheese enchilada. The beef taquito was dry and was unremarkable. The cheese enchilada tasted like something I could whip up at home. I usually love rice and beans! I am always tempted to take some home with me. However, their rice and beans were decent, but I didn't crave more once I finished them. The price of my dish was outrageously expensive for the quantity. I received two items for almost $20. If the food had been bursting with flavor, then I could justify the price. As it stands right now, the portions and the price do not match up. Their chips and salsa is good, but the nachos were completely flavorless. The cheese was too mellow for nachos, and the beans did not add anything to it. If I were to go here again, I would add meat to the nachos in hopes that the taste would improve. Additionally, the price of the nachos does not match the portion size. The price is too expensive for what you get.

Sooo good. My husband and I were both so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I can't remember the last time I had good, authentic Mexican food here in Utah. I had the vegetarian enchilada and practically licked the plate clean. The chips and salsa were on point and the service was excellent. It's not cheap but it is worth it 100%. We will definitely be back again.

I had the Fish Tacos. They were excellent. I got 3 but could only eat 2. They came with black beans and Spanish riches. Hubby requested a custom burrito. It wasn't on the menu. Burrito stuffed with chicken and smothered with chili verde sauce. They were happy to accommodate! Beautiful facility. We will go back!

Great! Love the atmosphere, everyone is friendly. It is a bit pricey but it's elevated food. Lucas, our server, recommended a shrimp diablo special. So good, spicy but flavorful. I'd order this again in a heartbeat.

The food was great. The host staff was welcoming and happy to help us with our seating requests. My husband and I sat upstairs. Upstairs the ambiance is cozy and the decor is modern. Our server was Karen. She was professional and very personable. Even though it was her second week she was knowledgeable and fast. In the future she will be the server I request. The restaurant was very clean. We will definitely be returning. I also highly recommend the coconut margarita!
