Was pretty good, loved the verde sauce and atmospheric grit. Was at the Hollywood Heritage Museum book sale today and saw the original vintage photos of the place. Very cool!
Good upscale Mexican restaurant.
How have I, an avid lover of Mexican food, lived here all my adult life and never eaten at El Cholo?! We had excellent food (shared the Taste of History, a Molcajete Guac, and a Green Corn Tamale) and wonderful service from Jade. I will be making up for lost time by returning again and again and again! We checked out the upstairs party room (fun!) and we got to walk out on the rooftop, where I hope they offer patio dining one day!

El Cholo Restaurant is an upscale Mexican spot with beautiful decor and an interesting history. It offers super great service and dynamic flavors, with standout dishes like crab enchiladas and the Taste of history, which allows for a substitution of the tamale with a spectacular green tamale. The coconut margarita remains a hit, and their full bar features fantastic margaritas. Customers can expect to spend $20-$30 per person, plus drinks, and parking is limited.
The tableside guacamole and fried ice cream are still a treat, and the chocolate mole on enchiladas has received praise. The ambiance is great, and the food is excellent, making it a wonderful experience for first-time visitors. Service is top tier and quick, ensuring that everyone enjoys their meal.
Customers love the consistently good food, incredible service, and unique entrees like the filet mignon tacos. The enchiladas Suizas, fish tacos, and margaritas are also popular choices. While it may be a little pricier for Mexican food, the overall experience is described as amazing and totally worth it.
