This place really sucks because they have horrible staff there. Bartenders overcharge for drinks. Security is very completely unprofessional. I highly recommend no one to go here. Shades go on and close your doors

Abuse case 7/4/25. My brother was maybe waiting maybe 3 minutes to leave by the stairs inside while I went to the restroom. In that time, your not so trained and unprofessional security guards, threw my brother down the stairs and dragged him out. Had he done something wrong, there would be no issue. However, your employees acted on their own agenda, and forced him to feel pain. Therefore, I would like legal contact info for your company.

I was there last night to have a good time as soon I got in there and I have to use a restroom and there was a long line. One side there was woman standing and the other side there was men's standing. One of the black tall security guy told me to move from here and I told him I need to use the restroom and that's why I'm in the line. He said I can't stand there and I told him there is all people standing here and you just going to pick me and then he put his hands on me and he start pushing me from that place if any of the lawyer or law enforcement reading my comment. I'm sure they have cameras. If you can help me to sue this place please contact me. As a customer, We deserve to be treated with respect and good customer service. Any of the people are reading this comment if you don't not want to be treat it like this. Avoid this place...

Came here to pick up a friend at the end of their night, and was said to meet them inside. I was denied entry by the bouncers and was told I could only get in if I gave them cash. I refused immediately and said I'll wait in the car instead, to which they pulled me back and said never mind, then let me in. I was disgusted by the interior. The floors were sticky everywhere you walked. The bathroom had pee all over the floor, and wet wads of toilet paper thrown about. I quickly picked up my friends and left.
Shades is not a safe space for women, everyone I know (including myself) has felt uncomfortable or had uncomfortable experiences there, especially with men. Definitely not a good atmosphere. The bouncers are terrible, weird, and shady. I've met many underage people who have been let in here.
I pray Shades goes out of business so no one else has to experience it.

Bouncers and bartenders are great! Just wish that the DJ would cool it on the gunshot/sound board sounds in songs. A packed dance floor when you hear gunshots isn’t a fun vibe imo.

The vibe is seriously off. Friend and I showed up the other night to cool off after a night out- first time out in years, just for my buddy to get hounded by the bartender for saying something ‘offensive.’ Taken completely out of context, no-one said anything to us or offered a chance to reconcile the miscommunication, but they put MY NAME on a warning for the salt lake area. Feels like it was targeted, but I can’t know for sure. Anyways a 1/5 is all I can really give.

DOCUMENTED INCIDENT: On November 30th, 2024, an alarming assault was captured on video by bystanders. This incident involved a customer being treated with shocking disregard, resulting in a broken nose that requires surgery this week. A Salt Lake City police report has been filed.
Customers should never fear for their safety when interacting with security personnel. Security guards are hired to protect and ensure safety, not to cause harm. Assaulting customers is unacceptable, unethical, and a violation of basic human rights. You, as employees, should call law enforcement to handle Shaded on State incidents.

too much violence, everyone has guns and the security guard punched me in my jaw. If you want to avoid violence DO NOT step foot in here, one of the worst bars in slc!!

At one of the bars inside, I got a single rail vodka soda for $5. At the other across the room, was asked to pay $9 for a single rail vodka and soda water. when i asked what the difference was, they said they were charging $4 for SODA WATER? never in my life have i had to pay that much for soda water. also, why are the prices inconsistent between the two bars they have in there? bartender on one side was extremely nice and one on the other was extremely rude. also, reading through the reviews and seeing the owner’s snarky comments back tells me this establishment isn’t run well. will not be back.
For the owner’s question: it was the bar near the dj booth on Saturday night. It was a shorter black male with a whitish t-shirt. multiple other of my friends were charged higher by him than at the bar across the building near the back wall. he did not use a POS system, just told me the price off the top of his head.
