Ordered grilled chicken nachos to go, asked for the toppings on the side do the chips don't get soggy. The guy at the register clearly didn't want to be there. Rude with great attitude. We let it slide and tipped him anyways. Came home to find nachos chips and chicken. No salsa, no cheese, no guacamole, no sour cream, no lettuce, no tomatoes. I want my $14.75 back.

I usually don’t write reviews for local restaurants unless they were really good, as I know how hard it is to keep one going in Abingdon, having seen some great places close in the last year. I’m making an exception for Papa Julio’s. I’ve lived and worked in Mexico, and went to college in Texas. The food here was truly awful from start to finish, and was Mexican food in name only. The chips were fried in a rancid tasting oil and we couldn’t eat very many due to the off taste. The salsa was inoffensive but not great. The guacamole was slightly gray and some of the worst I’ve ever had - watery, too much onion, unripe tomatoes, no garlic, etc. Guacamole isn’t hard to make and it’s table stakes for a Mexican restaurant to have good, fresh made, guacamole. The queso was probably from a can and you can get better at the grocery store. But the chicken fajitas, wow, just terrible. It wasn’t even fresh chicken and was basically a breast filet that had been previously frozen or even some kind of premade fajita chicken. It was cold and dry when it came out, and there was no marinade or flavor whatsoever. The veggies were over oily and barely seasoned, and again had the same rancid oil taste as the chips. They didn’t bring out any tortillas either which is necessary for fajitas. The carne asada was better than the other dishes, but one of the people in our group felt sick after eating it. If you want a margarita or a beer before the movies it’s probably fine, but the food was pretty inedible, and nothing close to Mexican food.

Asked question about menu and server just said “I have no idea.” I said “ok” and she never went to find out an answer lol
My mom ordered a beer and server says, “I think we’re out of that one, not sure.” Then she asked my mom which tap handle it was.
Atmosphere was by far the best thing about this place. Food was so, so.

We got started with the Julio's Sampler and cheese dip for appetizers. I got the Tropical Burrito. My wife got Pablano ACP. All of the food was very delicious and presented very well.
Karaoke in the background with sports on the big screens. We had an amazing time, and we definitely will return!

I'm sitting here now. Food has a good flavor BUT chips came out 10 minutes after sitting down. We ordered guacamole as soon as we sat down I had to ask for it after food came because we never saw our server again. When my fajitas came I also had to ask for tortillas. Waited 10 min and the server came and asked how everything was. I told her I didn't know because I was still waiting for my tortillas and guac.

On August 7th we went for dinner. We were placed in the room on the right side, away from the bar and all the ambience. There was one more table in the whole area. The food was well below the normal standard, with my salmon dish overcooked, with mushy rice, beans and vegetables. There were flies everywhere, and the waiter was extremely standoffish. We wrote a review to their email address, and never got any response. I would like to add…we’ve been to Papa Julio’s many times before - Previously had good food and service ( and the flies did not sit on the food ☹️)
Good food great service good all around

This restaurant was a horrible experience. I didn't ask for the meat to be done. And they served it like something inedible. My husband also told them that the meat was burnt and dry. The manager was just rude. He told my husband that if we didn't like the service we could leave. Our children were with us and we abstained from being the same. Of course we paid for everything without eating almost anything. Definitely never going back.

We had been eyeing this place for a while and decided to stop by and try it out, first i want to say the quesabirra tacos were AMAZING probably some of the closest I've had to the good stuff in Florida. Full of flavor, heavy on the portions, cheese was super melty and had that cheese pull everyone is after nowadays. Highly recommended those. Secondly the other dishes were decent but we all agreed that all the dishes except for the birra were very overcooked. Which i would rather them be overdone compared to underdone. Corn ribs were good but i wish there was more topping on them as some of the ones on the bottom were lacking the cotija cheese and cilantro. Fish tacos were not my favorite i probably should have read the item description better as I expected a grilled fish but it was breaded, even with the coleslaw and mango dressing i still felt they were very bland. Guac and queso were very flavorful though! Food came out in a timely manner and was hot, service was good, my friend mentioned the coconut margarita was delicious, only giving 3 stars on food because 3 out of 6 items were overcooked. We will be back but we will probably stick to the birra and cocktails next time!
