Went there for a family birthday celebration. Staff was attentive but not overly so. Gave us space but also got us what we needed. Sort of a hidden gem among the hotels and businesses

Showed up for our 7:30 reservation on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty. There was no one even at the host stand. We stood around for several minutes and several employees saw us but we weren’t greeted or served. So we left and went down the street to a different place! Disappointing. Will not return.

We've been to Bistro Sancerre many times over the past few years. Typically it has been a great experience to have a good French Style Restaurant so near home. However the past two occasions it has been lacking something. The previous time my duck was overcooked. This time my steak was cooked perfectly but was not properly trimmed and had gristle. The cocktail I had tasted watered down. I'm sure it wasn't but this was the first time my Manhattan was mediocre. It was better than the house Manhattan which had no flavor. So unfortunately it'll be some time before we return. I'll head to Great Falls next time.

Awful experience. Food was ok, service was abysmal. Our entrees were never brought out and eventually were packed up for us to take home. The restaurant was so hot my children felt ill and had to leave.

This was our first time at this restaurant. It was a quiet evening with only one server. While he was efficient, the service was a little slow but not enough to make a huge difference in our opinion of the venue. We will come back again.

We were extremely disappointed. When we arrived at 7, there was no "buzz". That's because there was no hostess and few patrons. One waiter, who explained there was no bartender on duty. Then he forgot to put our order in, so we waited for an hour and a half to receive our entrees. The food was very good, but the place should not have opened for service without proper staffing.

A superlative meal on a quiet evening for the restaurant, our party of four ended up with the place to ourselves. Booking our reservation at the last minute, three of our party arrived jon time to find our table set and ready. The locale is expansive, spaciuous and uncrowded, with much artwork gracing the walls Immediately seated,we orderd a bottle of Picpoul - bright and refreshing, smooth finish - and bread basket while waiting for our fourth to join us. The starters were sublime: a Beet Salad, Brie with Honey, Pate, and Beef Wellington Bites, oonly to be topped by the entrees, which took our dining experience to the next level. We chose the Duck Breast (shared), Short Rib Bourguignon, and Mushroon Orzo which was particularly memorable, accompanied by an off-menu Villa Antinori Tuscan Red (luscious, silky, fruity and earthy). We closed the meal with a shared White Chocolate Bread pudding for dessert,. Service was attentive and relaxed with the only off-note being the absence of the bartender that evening limiting our drinks selection. Bistor Sancerre was a wonderful find which, now known, we would happily and eagerly chose once more

Service was great, the food was absolutely horrible. I got the cheese platter and it was so underwhelming, $18 for three small pieces of bad cheese and two slices of baguettes. The worst part was my parent’s entrees. They got the duck and l've never smelled anything so bad, almost bordering on rancid. Would not recommend.

Had a fantastic meal at Bistro Sancerre. Our waiter, Gerard, was just lovely—very attentive and a great conversationalist. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him and appreciated that he showed interest but gave us space to enjoy (savor) the meal. The food was amazing. We started with the beef Wellington tarts, which were deconstructed with the beef and mushrooms atop a square of puff pastry and a Dijon horseradish sauce on the side. The beef was tender and melted in the mouth, and was just rich enough to balance the puff pastry. The steelhead trout served over in-season vegetables was flavorful and cooked to perfection. My husband had the salmon over beet risotto and loved it—so imaginative! The crème brûlée was excellent, as was the white chocolate bread pudding. We could not have asked for a better meal.

I keep forgetting to take photos each time I visit because I immediately start devouring each dish. But this place is phenomenal and in my opinion serves the best French cuisine in the DMV. I mentioned it in another review for another restaurant. The place has the best escargot and the desserts are fantastic. I'll need to visit again soon just to take photos!

Sancerre was a very nice restaurant. The environment was very relaxed and enjoyable. The opportunity to wander around to see their wonderful art while also perusing their extensive wine cellar collection to select your wine was a unique and added bonus. Our waiter was wonderful - he took his time and stayed with the pace of the 4 of us. The food from appetizer to desert was outstanding. We will definitely visit Sancerre again and again!

My wife and I had been here for dinner. My son whom recently became engaged and his fiance , along with her parents we're going here to see if this is someplace that we would like to hold they're engagement party. I spoke to the manager 2 weeks prior to make reservations she assured me that everything would go well, shr also said she would send me a menu and give me some general pricing which never arrived. Upon arrival my son's future in-laws were already sitting at the bar and had been there for some time. They informed me that there was only one waiter at the restaurant that evening and it was rather busy. Now getting these people to agree to have any type of party that didn't include a barbecue and whiskey was going to be difficult enough but what occured was unexcusable. My son arrived at the restaurant with his fiance about the same time as I did and my wife. Gerard the waiter a pleasant man who was the only waiter that evening and had at least nine tables with multiple guests He was apologetic but determined that everything would be fine He took our drink orders and after about 5 minutes my son's in-laws were becoming impatient but after 30 I had to agree and they got up and left the restaurant I was embarrassed and quite humiliated by the experience and just quietly left the restaurant as well. I reached out to management let them know that they set Gerard up to fail and that it was unbelievable that them knowing two weeks in advance that I was coming in there and was going to be spending quite a bit of money not only on this dinner but also the possibility of spending several thousands on the engagement party. No response no apology no updates now the food there the times my wife and I were there was pretty good The atmosphere as far as the aesthetics of the building it's pretty exceptional but I would have to say the owners and the management of this restaurant care so little about their customers that they understaffed the establishment to the point of their own demise and to the disappointment of their clientele.I would say of the multiple restaurants down in the Old Town Alexandria area there's got to be at least 25 where the food is as good if not better and probably every one of them has better service because management sets their people up for failure and sets their clients up for a long long evening.
