Overall great experience! Located blocks away from the riverfront, so perfect for lunch or dinner and a stroll around Old Town. Cozy restaurant with very friendly staff! Raj had some great recommendations for food and drink. Started with the Bollywood Old Fashioned. Loved it! Ordered the veggie samosas for appetizer. Fried perfectly! Crispy, not greasy and stuffed to the max with tasty filling. The chutney it came with was subtle, with a little sweetness and touch of spice. Ordered the garlic butter naan. It was good, thin and had good butter and garlic coverage. I prefer naan to be thicker and more doughy. This style of naan worked really well for the dessert chocolate naan with ice cream! Would order that every time! For main course, I tried the palak with tofu and bollywood special with shrimp at the restaurant. Both sauces were extremely tasty! The rice cooked perfectly. The serving sizes big enough to fill up but not so big where you couldn't finish. Good prices and I would say excellent value for what you get. The shrimp were big and juicy. The tofu soft and creamy. I wanted to try the spiciest dish on the menu and Raj asked me a few questions to learn if it was a good idea for me. I love spicy food and ended up ordering it to go and it did not disappoint. On a scale of 1-30, I ordered a 20 and it was spicy. Made my nose run and tongue burn, in the best way possible. Flavor was on point and spice level was good for the brave to try in the restaurant but better to take it home and have for lunch the next day. 10/10! Will come again!

Yum, people! Really comfortable seats and a cute Old Town location. Grilled Tikka paneer was excellent, hubs and I shared this with our mains. I got a spicy lamb dish at spice level 15 and it was great, very spicy but not so much to make me uncomfortable and I am a pepperhead. Rice was super flavorful. Also enjoyed the garlic naan, I will definitely be back

Bollywood masala was an amazing dining experience for my Fiancé and I. The hospitality was unmatched. The servers all worked together to take orders and deliver food and drinks.

We started with the chicken pakora - 5/5

She had the butter masala with chicken (pictured) and loved it.

I had the tiki masala with chicken (pictured). It was fantastic! We also each had an order of garlic naan - delicious!

We came in just before closing time and ordered Malai Kofta, mint paratha and vegetable biryani. It was soo delicious. The waitress was very kind to us and offered us the best service there is and most importantly she did not rush us at all even though it was the closing time! I think this is my new fav place to eat😋😋😋

Great small business in heart of Old Town with extremely friendly staff, owner, and great food. My partner and I come here at least once a week and have been delighted every time. Highly recommend.

Excellent dinner at Bollywood Masala in Alexandria. Was there on a family trip. It was so good that we went back a second time! Chef Raj is a true chef - caringly crafted authentic Indian dishes with spices made from scratch. It reflects in the quality and taste of the food. Service staff were excellent and we liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. Thank you Raj!

I’m gonna be quite honest here. I don’t understand the positive reviews here. The chilli chicken momo were not spicy enough for me. The food is also quite overpriced here. Like how are you not gonna have regular momo, but only chilli? I’m giving two stars because I’m being very generous.

This is unequivocally (in my opinion!) the best Indian food in the DC metro area. As a Brit (no taste in food right? Wrong when it comes to Indian), these guys know what they’re doing. The succulent chicken tikka masala was as good as any fine dining in Delhi.

I am visiting Alexandria, VA and had dinner at Bollywood Masala. I’ve travelled to a lot of places and enjoy Indian cuisine a lot. This restaurant was outstanding for the authentic flavor of its food. Chef Raj explained that he makes everything from scratch including the original ways to create the base such as the oils and spice mixes. It was clear that it showed in the flavor of their food.

Highly recommend this restaurant!

Thank you, Chef Raj, for the hospitality and service of your staff, in addition to the amazing flavors. You’ve given me a compelling reason to come back to Alexandria.

Came here for dinner during restaurant week. Everything tasted fantastic. All the usual Indian fare plus interesting dishes one might not normally expect. Atmosphere was very nice and staff were all friendly. This place deserves more reviews than it has.
