This place is not inexpensive, but food is a great value. ($3 for an 8 oz can of Coke is not.) I got this vibe from the waitress that my wife and I were outsiders (gringos). She was nice enough, just not welcoming.
I've been here recently and I have had their pupusa on multiple occasions. The quality matches the price (about $3 each, you can get them a la cart or a normal order is 3 pupusas). I'll admit I have had fancier pupusas, sure, but those are $6+ each at least and lets face it - when we want those delicious warm, gooey, filling bread pockets no one wants to waste money on fancy, you just want comforting, reasonably priced, and tasty. Something that leaves you sitting...
I ordered the birria tacos and they were fantastic! The beef was very delicious and juicy, the taco shell perfectly fried. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful. They have great spanish/Latino music that made the experience fun. I highly recommend Guanaquito!
