I had a reservation here on a Sunday at 12pm, with my brother and mother accompanying me. The restaurant has dim lighting and sort of a dark atmosphere to it. We ate off the brunch menu, which unfortunately had varying reviews. I opted for the Virginia breakfast, which included : toast, potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and bacon. The scrambled eggs with cheese were very good and I appreciated how they added chives to it. The potatoes are very big and tasted of an old bay seasoning, and were perfectly crisp. Now the bacon was more of slices of pork belly, it was very oily and fatty. The toast for sourdough bread but was not good to me. I'm not sure what it was , but it was very dry and honestly tasted stale to me. My mother ordered shrimp and grits which were absolutely delicious. They were well seasoned and I wish I would've order that instead. The shrimp had a sausage like aroma, which was divine. My brother opted for the pancakes, these were not anything to write home about as they were kind of dry, and weren't my typical type of pancake. If you love the crispy edges and soft in the middle pancakes, these are not for you. We also ordered the deviled eggs, which were spicy as heck. I actually think they put the Devil in the egg. Maybe we had a bad batch but I love spice and this made me eat with caution. Now for the server, she was pleasant but did very minimal to enhance the eating experience. Per example not asking if we needed any condiments and not checking on us within good amount of time. It felt as if she was very distant or just very dry with our table. The cost for our meal was $69.95 , which I believe was fair including we also ordered a Bellini which was good.

I was really disappointed in the place. Which is sad because the restaurant looks AMAZING. The service was pretty decent, although at times, it felt like I was being forgotten about. The shrimp and grits were one of the nastiest things I've ever tasted in may life. There's a very thick gravy that can only be described as tart, the shrimp felt undercooked, and there was waaay to much extra stuff in there. The ingredients are simple Shrimp and Grits, not need of heirloom tomatoes cut in half, or seemingly whole slabs of either bacon or salt pork, or any of the mystery ingredients that were put in there.

I ate at Alexandria's King & Rye several times in April. Service was great, from hosts to servers. Most of what I ate (dinner & breakfast) was good but not worth writing a review. The one standout is their Bread Pudding. It's served hot and topped with cream, strawberries and delicious blackberries! Definitely worth a try, if you are there. My photo is the bread pudding in a to-go box.

Yesterday was my first experience at King & Rye and I can say with absolutely certainty that I will not be returning. This seems to be another example of a hotel restaurant prioritizing form over function. All show no go.I ordered a bottle of wine and three dishes; the deviled eggs, seared scallops and burger. Below is what I received.Seared scallops: 5 medium size scallops, a handful of breakfast potatoes, a green sauce and some fried kale. The scallops were not even close to seared. They were dropped into the fryer with the potatoes and kale. They tasted of old fryer oil and dripped grease when squeezed. This was a $30 dish. Gross.Burger: My first observation when the plate arrived was that the tater tots were fried to a very dark brown color. I tasted one while the server was at the table and it was bitter. Wayyy over cooked. I asked the server if that was how they were normally served and she replied it was with noticeable hesitation. I asked for a new order, which she brought. The burger wasn't bad. It had good seasoning, but not much else happening with it. The bun was of the grocery store variety and cold to the touch.Deviled eggs: The most flavorful bite of the night. 4 half eggs so not a great value, but they tasted good. not mad about it.Service: Our plates started to be cleared before they were finished. I actually had to ask for my food back. We still had a half bottle of wine. Chairs were being put up on all the tables around us as we finished our wine. As I poured the last glass from the bottle the lights were turned up all the way. Pretty clear we weren't welcome to stay. It was 10pm. The website says they seat until 10.Please do better.

Started the dinner off with a cocktail called "Summer Sippin," aka "Up to Snow Good". It was amazing. You couldn't taste the alcohol but you know it's there. The appetizer was the skillet cornbread. It's moist and flavorful, but it's savory, not sweet. The entrée was the AOF pork chop. Cooked to perfection with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and crispy fried kale. Dessert was the bread pudding....delicious!

What I ordered: K&R Old FashionedI have not yet eaten here and even though most of my reviews are about food, I have to say that this place has the best Old Fashioned in all of DC. I've ordered Old Fashioned drinks in multiple fancy pancy places in DC, Arlington, and Alexandria. One of my favorites is the Hamilton Loft Bar. But King and Rye definitely takes the lead. I don't know how they do it but it must be the Basil Hayden's Bourbon and the freaking delicious Luxardo brand maraschino cherries they put in. Each time I ask for a couple extras on the side. So stop by and give it a try. Tell them Marcos sent you.

Had breakfast at the hotel. Portions were good and the food was well prepared. Cinnamon roll was hot and fresh, but wasn't as flavorful as hoped.
