I had a very disappointing experience here. Communication during the ordering process was extremely limited. I placed my order, was told “ok,” and then was prompted to tap my card without any clarification or receipt provided.

I later realized I had been charged for two pepper soups when I only intended to order one. I did receive two soups, so this may have been a misunderstanding, but the ordering process lacked clarity and left me frustrated. I wasn't feeling well so did not open the bag right away when I got home. By the time I realized I had been charged for and given two soups, the restaurant was already closed.

Unfortunately, the food was also not my favorite. If communication had been easier during ordering, I likely would have asked for recommendations, so it’s very possible the pepper soup just wasn’t their best dish. Between the confusing ordering experience, lack of receipt, and overall experience, I personally would not return. Also, I would recommend double-checking your order and asking for a receipt before leaving.

My favorite is the waakye ( Rice & beans). I’ve tried waakye in Ghana and most of the big cities in the states but this one is a must try. Lately moved out of Va and my only ask from anyone visiting me is just that. Adding to my experience is auntie Rose, who prepares and serves with joy. Thank you auntie Rose.

Didn’t like the egusi one bit it was too much spinach and tomato never had it like this before and the man at the counter had a attitude I definitely prefer rahama.

I’m here I’m so confused I ordered food and was told to sit down the person (west African) who arrived after me got served and was allowed to stand. I haven’t been given a time drama or even allowed to pay I’m hella confused. The guy keeps telling me to sit down. I’m ready to leave!

I ordered delivery, and I was impressed with how hot and fresh the omo tuo was, and how large the portion of rice was. The goat meat was tasty, although I would have preferred it be without bone, as I had to use fork and knife, use the container lid as a plate, and fish the goat out to cut the meat off the bone and then put it back into the soup. That wasn't really a problem as many soups serve bone-in meat despite the idea of it being silly in a soup.

The problem was the hausa koko. I was given an entire store-bought container of ready made soup. Cold. The portion size was huge, and had I been at home with a method to portion it and heat it, I might have been delighted... except, 1) it's store bought, the restaurant didn't make it. 2) it was cold and I had no way to portion it out or heat it. I've never had it before so I have no idea how it should taste, I'll admit. But I was only able to try it cold, and it was very much not good. There was no expiration date on it either, so I don't even know how old it was, so I have no way of knowing if it was terrible or just cold or just not to my taste. Either way, bad choice to send a store bought cold container to someone who ordered the take-out so that they could, I dunno, maybe eat a meal??????? Food for thought, guys. Pun intended.

It was bizarre the way one dish was perfectly hot and ready to eat and the other simply was the exact opposite, not prepared, not cooked, not ready. Why couldn't the restaurant have simply portioned some into a to-go cup and heated it? I'd never have known it was store bought.

Anyway, if you eat in, I should hope they won't dump a store bought container in your lap. It's a bit humorous, but also disappointing, as I was looking forward to trying food I'd never had before.

Recommend the omo tuo, don't order the hausa koko as they don't even make it.

Every single time I’ve either ordered food in person or from Uber Eats from here, I have NOT been disappointed. Best Ghanaian food I’ve had in the DMV so far. The portions are very generous as well, which I appreciate. The owner is so kind and you can tell she’s very passionate about running this restaurant. 10/10!

I really love the food😋—especially the waakye. It brings back so many memories of home, not just in the taste but in the way it’s served. It feels warm, familiar, and so comforting.🥰🥰

The place has decent food used to Better. It seems they are trying to teach their daughter to run the business which is understandable, the problem is the daughter is rude. I’ve been going there for years but after my encounter with the daughter I may never come back! I started to check her right there but I didn’t even have the strength to argue. When they say poor customer service believe them bc it’s no lie. The son was nice one time I went but on this visit the daughter is rude! She doesnt want to be there! Also I called in my Oder 30 mins before I arrived and still had to weight like 25 mins. I’ll prob never go back cause I don’t have time for that kinda stuff when I’m spending my hard earned money! Idk who these ppl think they are we have a million places to choose from such as Rahama which is right up the street from them and one of the best being calabash off Van Dorn. So these folks need to get a hold of themselves. Cause times are too hard to think anyone had to spend their money with you….in this economy if you want to last you better check yourself!

Never again. I have given them multiple chances because of Uber Eats and there has been some sort of issue each time. Last time we ordered, we ordered jollof rice for my husband and I ordered banku with Tilapia. My husband was unable eat his jollof. Every time we have ordered waakye, the meat has been missing except the fish. Today, we ordered waakye for my husband and tuo zaafi for me…YALL! When I tell you the soup for the tuo zaafi made no sense…! I thought they accidentally added the wrong soup so I called and the lady had an attitude. On top of that, today too, my husbands waakye came with NO meat! Just fish. Even though when I called, she claimed they gave us other meat. They DID NOT. My husband just confirmed that today’s only came with fish! I’m from Ghana and so I would never speak negatively on a Ghanaian restaurant regardless but the attitude that lady gave me on the phone when I called about the soup was absolutely unacceptable! Y’all look at this soup that I attached to this review and tell me…WHEN have yall as Ghanains seen this soup being used to eat Tuo zaafi? Does this look like any type of ayoyo soup to anyone?!

This restaurant is the worst place to ever order . Literally everyone there lack common sense and manners. I placed an order, a guy contacted me through the uber rider that they didn’t have my food even though he accepted it. I told him I wanted my omo Tuo with palm nut soup which I ordered. He offered pea nut or light soup I told him no. He then asked me to cancel which I did . I was charged and uber said they can’t refund me so I contacted them again and lady told me to call them the following day because they will have my meal available which I did. One arrogant woman picked and started going off on me. She didn’t even offer any solution. Didn’t apologize for the inconvenience.
