I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taqueria El Poblano in Del Ray Alexandria, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth raving about! From the moment we walked in, the aroma of authentic Mexican cuisine filled the air, setting the stage for what would be an unforgettable meal. First off, let's talk about the portions - they're absolutely astronomical! My dining companion and I found ourselves marveling at the generous servings placed before us. Trust me when I say, if you visit Taqueria El Poblano, make sure you arrive hungry! Now, onto the main event - the margaritas. Renowned as the best in Virginia for six consecutive years, they certainly did not disappoint. We indulged in the cherry and mango margaritas, and oh boy, were they a treat! Smooth, flavorful, and expertly crafted, these cocktails were the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Speaking of the meal, we kicked things off with the Poblano's Queso Dip - a mouthwatering blend of cheese, tequila, and spices, topped with chorizo and broiled to perfection. It was packed with flavor and set the bar high for the dishes to come. For our mains, I opted for the Tostada, while my spouse went for the Poblano's Real Burrito. Both dishes were bursting with color and flavor, and the portions were more than generous. I couldn't help but feel like Chipotle had nothing on the size of these burritos! The service at Taqueria El Poblano was exemplary - attentive, friendly, and quick. Whether you're looking to unwind with Margarita Monday specials, catch happy hour, or enjoy a weekend dinner, this place has you covered. A bit of background on the restaurant: Founded by executive chef Glen Adams, a California native with a passion for Southern California Mexican cuisine, Taqueria El Poblano has been serving up fare inspired by regional Mexican and L.A.-style cuisine since 1999. From Fish Tacos to Duck Carnitas, their menu showcases a delightful array of flavors, with specials changing daily. In conclusion, if you're in the mood for a flavor fiesta paired with stellar margaritas, look no further than Taqueria El Poblano. Just remember one thing - come hungry!

I moved to Baltimore and traveled back to Del Ray for the best margaritas!! ?

A minor bummer of an evening. The food was fine (supermarket-level tortillas and un-bold spicing, but there was a nice balance of ingredients in the burrito). The service wasn't rude; they just didn't care. My burrito was brought cold, which, no problem, it happens -- but when I asked them to reheat it, they stuck the whole plate in the microwave and brought it back with warm guacamole and pico! Just nobody, in the kitchen or front of house, seemed interested in our experience or that of our kid. They put about as much effort in making the kids quesadilla interesting as they did making our kid feel welcome. The nicest part was the crowd; it's obviously a neighborhood hangout and there were people there eating their family dinner and greeting each other.

My go to Mexican restaurant when I'm passing thru the Alexandria-DC metro area. Good value, steak tampiqueño being my favorite plate. Tried a few other mexican restaurants in Del Ray, but will stick to el poblano. Quiet neighborhood, easy parking on Mt Vernon Ave. Several interesting shops along the street worth visiting, for locals and visitors like myself.

Came here to celebrate an early birthday. We tested out their brunch menu. It did not disappoint. Both mains and the appetizer were delicious! I would highly recommend either of the three items that we indulged in! The service was slow in the being (they just opened) but picked up towards the end and was great! The decor of the place is super cool! It's definitely a small joint but has enough tables for a good amount of customers! We will return! Food was delicious!

The food and the drinks were ok. The service on the other hand was not. Our waitress was rude and seemed to be disturbed we were there. My family of four were the only patrons of color, and our server seemed annoyed to serve us. I ordered a kids apple juice, but was given a boxed mango drink instead. I sent it back and ordered a lemonade, but was given water with lime, and a bottle of simple syrup. There did not seem to be a language barrier, however this woman was intent on giving us whatever she wanted despite what we actually ordered. She did not crack a smile or communicate with us other that to bluntly ask what we wanted. We were totally turned off by the service and won’t be patronizing this spot again.

Was our favorite for years, but last month we brought out of town guests, and it was abysmal. Cold and flavorless. What happened? I don't know, but I'm not going back.
