About a 2.5: Chef Peter left a while back, but a dear friend of mine had mentioned that The Sushi Bar is her favorite sushi joint that she frequents often with her family. Our party ordered the following: +Spicy Sashimi Salad - an assorted raw fish and cucumber salad with spicy soy sauce +Baked Green Mussel & Baby Scallops - with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and scallions +Tuna Tataki - seared tuna served with ponzu sauce +Yellowtail & Jalapeno App - yellowtail with jalapenos, topped with caviar, and served with ponzu sauce +Dream Roll - shrimp tempura and avocado, wrapped in soy paper, topped with spicy tuna, with a side of creamy jalapeno sauce, sweet chili sauce, and tempura +After Rain Roll - tuna, salmon, white fish, asparagus, and avocado, wrapped in soy paper, served with a jalapeno creamy sauce +Kamikaze Roll - spicy crab and cucumber, topped with avocado, tempura bits, and a sweet chili sauce +Del Ray Roll - spicy tuna and avocado topped with seared tuna and jalapeno, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce with tempura bits +Spicy Shrimp Roll - lump crab, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo, topped with shrimp, and served with a mango tobiko sauce +Tropic Roll - crabstick, avocado, and cucumber, topped with crushed pineapple, mango, and jalapeno cream On this particular visit, each dishes that we had ordered came out well-presented and the fish was very fresh; I was actually pleasantly surprised! The items were easily shareable among us, so we were able to order a variety, some repeats, to sample. I do find this place to be inconsistent, as the second visit was not good at all - I had raved about it to the hubs, and our experience was nothing compared to the one before. So disappointing! I'm glad I was able to give this place a couple more tries, but wouldn't return. +no more Chef Peter! +inconsistent offerings +limited street and residential parking available

Unfortunately, this was a miss. The staff seemed nice (we got take out, so not much interaction), but the sushi was not good. The rice was not seasoned well and very chewy/dense. The “tempura pieces”, which many of their rolls feature, were straight up stale and also chewy. The yellowtail tasted very fishy. We’ve had sushi at many places in the DMV area and this is one we would not return to.

We order weekly! I'm from NY, so best sushi, no, but best sushi in Alexandria, yes! I wouldn't look to far for good sushi in the neighborhood when you have the sushi bar around the corner. Baby octopus...no. Everything else, yum.

They do not offer dine-in, this was discovered after a 30 minute drive in a city I am not familiar with. Also had to wait 20 minutes for someone at this “restaurant” to tell me this

If I could give 0 stars I would. Size and favor not worth the price. I don't normally write reviews but oh my goodness. We got 3 sushi rolls (the kamikaze, rainbow roll, and the Mount Vernon roll), the spicy sashimi salad, and the miso soup for about $67. For the price the size and quality was awful. For starters, the sashimi salad came in the tiniest container and tasted like nothing, it didn't even really have that iconic fish taste and it had a flavorless spice to it and our cucumbers were just absolutely soggy. The miso soup had nothing in it (no tofu), was absolutely flavorless, and seemed really watered down. The sushi themselves were just as disappointing if not more. All three rolls tasted almost the same, there was no sweetness, saltiness, or any umami variety. The only difference was that one was spicy but in an unpleasant fake kind of way. The quality of the fish on the rainbow roll was not great, you couldn't tell the difference between the fish and once again, the fish didn't taste fishy. I am incredibly disappointed and won't be coming here again; the size, flavor, and quality were subpar. Don't waste your money.

This used to be my favorite restaurant, but I just ordered from them for the first time since Covid set in, and it was quite disappointing to pay their hefty prices for sushi (and leave a 20% tip, ahead of time of course), and get a package with no ginger, no Wasabi. Any restaurant that sells Japanese food should know that these are crucial ingredients. The people putting together the food are clearly on the barbecue team, and when I called to complain they had no idea what I was talking about. The owners have pretty much killed this restaurant. You can't even take the food and eat in inside the barbecue side (same owner.) If it's Japanese, no eating in? Not worth the price we just paid. Very deeply disappointed in what used to be a wonderful food experience. Won't try it again.

Laughable portion size. I got three rolls and paid $32 for a ridiculously small amount of food. When I called the store, the man reassured me this was all correct and this was indeed my 3 rolls. I was told my choice of cucumber wrapped instead of rice might be why the portion size seemed small. Absolutely will not be returning.

I tried this spot in the past with my friend and I am obsessed since then. I liked the excellent mood and yummy dishes and drinks. Great work.

Food was fine. Danny the manager was not. We ordered take-out and when my husband got home, we realized one part of our order was missing. We called and Danny, after saying that he packed our order, then implied that we were lying and said he'd have to take our word for it. No apology for the messed up order. Dinner wasn't worth the hassle so we won't be returning.

This restaurant gives amazing service as well as delightful menu. My favourite restaurant in the city. The food and drinks served rapidly and the rates were fair. Highly recommended.

I got takeout from here and the sushi is good. Nothing amazing but not terrible. They did not give me any ginger or wasabi which was disappointing.
