The pan Catalan was subpar to the previous visits, not well toasted and mushy. The seafood paella and sardine appetizer were definitely not fresh. The shrimp, mussels, and squid felt slimy or overly mushy instead of firm and tender. The rice had lost its proper texture, becoming soggy, from sitting out too long. Mussels and clams were tightly shut after cooking which indicates they were already dead before going into the pan. Braised lamb shank, however, was excellent.
We love SER! My husband and I treat it like a weeknight date place because it can be romantic, it's quiet, and they don't try to rush you out to turn over the table - so you can actually talk. We took an old friend in town for the first time in a long time and it was the perfect venue for some good celebration of friendship and catching up after a decade.
Generally the service at Ser is as good as the food, but not this visit. My husband and I ordered the branzino to share. Our original server had a colleague filet the fish for us at the table. He tried but it took forever so that the food was cold by the time he finished. To top it off, he didn't give us plates to eat from or serving utensils.
