Having lived in North Carolina, and in proximity to Lexington, I can confidently say that this is not representative of real Carolina BBQ. It was okay, not bad not great. You'd probably like it if you didn't know any better, which seems like a lot of places around here. The food was overall pretty bland and lacking in flavor. I have passed by this place many times. My husband and I decided to try it this past weekend. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable, especially considering the area. My family is from North Carolina and it has been a long time since I have been able to have good BBQ. This place is legit! They even have the vinegar based sauce which is a staple of North Carolina BBQ. We will definitely be returning.
Maybe more like 3.5 stars, but I’ll err on the side of generosity. Solid BBQ, which I’m always pleasantly surprised to find this far north. Brisket was meaty and not dry, but needed some sauce for flavor. Despite the Carolina name, I didn’t detect much vinegar, but maybe that’s an optional sauce I didn’t get or see since we were there just close to closing time. Better than Willard’s, not as good as Hammerdown.
