This is my 5th time stopping for lunch at this wonderful restaurant on our trip down south. We drive a bit out of our way to make sure to include it in our travels. The food is always outstanding and we stock up on some wine and olive oil to take home!
Setting is beautiful and we had a window seat. Food is yummy and enough to share. We ordered two mains and asked if we could get a simple green salad to share (no squash, beets, nuts, cheese, berries, just greens). The greens arrived with a delightful dressing. In addition to ordering dessert coffees, we were brought a complimentary birthday sorbet on a decorated plate for my guest. All was perfect until the bill came. I was charged for the full salad with all the toppings ($18). This seemed unfair, so I asked the waiter who checked with someone who had more power to make a change. So the charge was $16 for a small/medium bowl of greens! Just a word to the wise. Ask about charges when any requests are made. Still a very nice birthday lunch.
Always a fabulous experience at Palladio! Enjoy our annual birthday celebration with friends!
Palladio had been highly recommended and had good reviews. Our meals that night were substandard and not worth the cost. I had a rockfish which was very disappointing and my wife had an acorn squash meal which was equally disappointing. There was a cannelloni ai frutti di mar (lobster, shrimp, scallop and squid ink pasta) prior to the main course, which was excellent. Service was excellent and the ambiance was very nice. I doubt that we will go back
The home made pasta was astounding and the soup was delicious. It was worth the 1 1/2 hour drive.
Palladium is expensive, so for most of us it's for special occasions. That said, it is a wonderful experience for anyone who appreciates fine dining. The food is excellent, the service is top-notch, and the room is pleasant and quiet.
We were married at the Barboursville Ruins 5 years ago and had our wedding dinner there, so we make it a point to visit every year on our anniversary as a special and romantic occasion. Once again this year, Palladio hit 10's all across the board as a top dining experience. The service was impeccable, the Octagon wine never disappoints, and the meal was amazing. Please do try the Wild Boar appetizer, presented with lentils, caramelized onions, and blueberries... I would say this dish is on my list of the top 5 appetizers I've had anywhere in my 50 years of dining at fine restaurants. My wife's fresh Halibut main was an incredible dish as well...especially if you sub in the creamy mashed potatoes. I chose the Duck as my main course - it had a very unique and crispy presentation and I would give both this and the Halibut (after stealing part of my wife's dish) 10 out of 10's as well. Overall we would rate Palladio at Barboursville on the same level as Fleurie, Ten, and The Farmhouse at Veritas as one of the top restaurants within driving distance of Charlottesville.
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. The staff make you feel pampered and the food is truly an experience for the senses.
Everything about our experience was lovely: the venue, the meal, the wines and the service. Highly recommend the wine pairing. It elevated each course from excellent to sublime.
3 main courses were not prepared as ordered. 2 Duck breast courses were ordered as med rare and delivered as well done 1 lamb chop course was ordered med and delivered as well done. I didn't have time to send back since I was with out of town guests and had a follow up commitment. I also expect the chef and server to check the order. None of that happened.

Not worth going at all. Food portions was so small and prices were terribly high. Went two years ago and didn't have this experience. You can tell things are definitely changing for the worse. Even did a tasting in the Library and it has changed for the worse. Will not go back. So sad to see Management decisions destroy a great vineyard.
Every time we come through Charlottesville, we always have dinner at the Palladium This was the first time the food was not very good. My husband's pasta came out cold in the meat was so minced that the texture was like eating canned meat. I had the seafood ink cannoli pasta. the pasta was very thick with minced seafood. We ordered a coffee and it was room temperature.
Kindness and connection were immediately part of our wonderful dining experience! Incredibly creative and delicious food.
Took forever to get acknowledged and seated and then a while to get drinks ordered and delivered. The first courses were good (salad and soup) however something was going on with service/kitchen as it took a while to get our mains. My wife's risotto was luke warm and rice not cooked enough/hard. The duck was good but the broccoli raab was very bitter/astringent. The did take the risotto off the bill but you could tell our main server was annoyed. For our anniversary this was just not a good experience and what we expected.
Palladio is an experience. My family has been going whenever we are in the area for more than 20 years. The food is always spectacular--a feast for the eyes as well as for the tastebuds. The staff is incredibly attentive and make you feel special, no matter the occasion.
