The donuts are amazing!!! Great verity and they do have changing ones so you dont burn out. They are high price but worth it. The filled donuts are not under or overfilled you get donut and filling perfectly. The toped donuts are just as great especially the cookies and cream looking ones and the coconut (toasted or untoasted). Super friendly staff and the cooks are amazing.3 complaints I will say!! 1st it's way out at end of blacksburg so it's inconvenient to get all the time. 2nd it's small paring lot and lobby/ordering area. Otherwise it's a great place to get super amazing donuts from. 3rd complaint is there is no delivery of any kind from here.

Absolutely the best donuts. Love them.
My lower star rating is due to the fact that lately they don’t seem to be making as many as past. Been there twice in a week and both times they were sold out by 10am. I have been there a lot over the years and generally even at 10am you can still get some, just maybe not the full variety.
The service is always great, the donuts are amazing! They are the best donuts I have ever eaten. I have been enjoying this place more then 30 years.

Just for fun and because we need a go-to for donuts, my family (my wife, two teens, and me) did a side-by-side comparison with a well-known national chain, using exact matches of donut type (glazed, filled, cake, frosted, sprinkles) on the same morning. Consistently, Carol Lee comes out on top. The flavor of the donut is richer and fresher. The texture inside is soft, and the outside has a light crispness. The icing is not overly sweet. I was able to get in and out in less than 4 minutes. The coffee isn’t their strong point, but I don’t go to Carol Lee for coffee anyway. So, if you are thinking of bringing donuts to work or an event, you want to bring something good. Let me save you some time... go to Carol Lee. I have zero affiliation with Carol Lee. I just want to share good stuff.

Voted best donut in VA in 2024 on yelp. Initial impressions: crowd lined up early. Coffee: not good (that might be because I had to put a powdered creamer in it because I didn’t know they had liquid creamer in the drink fridge) although honestly I only halfway believe that. Chocolate iced donut: ok. Had more of a baked/cake donut taste to it (vice a fried/glazed taste). You can even tell it’s a different kind of donut in the picture. Not very sweet. Glazed donut: pretty good. Sweet.  Service: good. But: no napkins in the bag (that’s a negative). Solid 3.5/5 ⭐️. Certainly not the best I’ve ever had. Best in VA? I mean, we still have Krispy Kreme so…..
Side note: you can park across the street and cross over.

Carol Lee along with Carlson's in Severn, MD, are the best mom-n-pop donut shops in the Mid-Atlantic Region. I just visited my Hokie in Blacksburg so treated his house and me to lots of Carol Lee Donuts. A new fave may be what appeared to be a Devils Food combined with Blueberry along with the Cinnamon Sugar Donut. Glad I live 4 hours away or I'd be there every morning.
