Location is the best thing about this shop, coffee is good but pastries and food are about average.

Cream was great, but wish the bottom cracker part has more flavor - it literally tastes nothing.

By far the most comfortable and welcoming bakery/coffee shop in Blacksburg, and so close to campus, too. Friendly vibe, great music, outstanding food. Been coming here for 12 years and it never fails!

I've been here several times, and it's been good every time. But, apparently, the official times are not rock solid. My son and I were coming back from a trip and wanted some coffee and tea. Get to the door, and it's closed at 3:23 on a Sunday. He was very disappointed, and honestly, so was i.

The workers were very polite and the quality of service exceeded expectations. I ordered the sunset lemonade smoothie and the French maple, they were both amazing!

I have been coming here for a while now, and i've been pleasantly surprised by the consistency of the bagel sandwiches. They have a long list of options for this but I always do a custom one with brisket, egg, chipotle sauce, and some other things, would recommend. Recently they added a few deserts to their menu including banana pudding, and to be honest it's something that seemed pretty mundane but one of the servers recommended it to me and it was life-changing. I haven't had everything on the menu, pretty much stuck to the bagel sandwiches, banana pudding, and every once in a while the mini pies which are also amazing. I come in here to study a few times a week and its almost always a pleasant experience paired with some pretty good food.

I was recommended to Next Door Bake Shop by a friend based on some good experiences. This visit was my 3rd time and it has progressively gotten worse. Every time I order an iced milk green with boba. The 1st visit was by far the best mid-late 2023. The 2nd visit the boba was very soggy on the outside and hard on the inside. This final visit I’m not even sure what I got. I again ordered an iced milk green tea and the following picture is what I received. I was in a rush and grabbed my order to run back to work, unfortunately I didn’t notice until I was in my car. Obviously this was not green tea and after I mixed it throughly it tasted as if it was just powered mixed into water and no milk at all. The boba was even worse than the 2nd time, it was hard and broke up into chunks as if it wasn’t kept warm after cooking. After drinking the “tea”, I was nauseous the rest of the evening and part way into the next day. The guy who served me seemed new and unsure what he was doing; so perhaps this was just a training error, but there should be supervision if someone is that new. Regardless, that will likely be my last time going there, at least for boba, but it doesn’t give me much faith for the other menu items.

Ordered a sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel and it really hit the spot. I loved the crispy bagel. Great coffee shop vibes that seem ideal for working or studying. Great price too! Parking in parking lot

I had such high hopes walking into the shop and left empty handed. I came from Europe to be with my son on his birthday next week. I haven’t celebrated last four of his birthdays with him as we are stationed overseas and he is in school at VT. So, I want to make this birthday very special and someone recommended this bake shop for a cake.It was a Saturday, it was decently busy when I came in, a young man talked to me about a cake but had to get several answers from his manager as he wasn’t sure of the answers himself. When I inquired about a specialty cake, he told me he would have to check with his manager again at which point I told him I will take a moment to decide what exactly I wanted. Few minutes later I was ready and this time asked to speak to the manager right away because I saw no point in taking the young man’s time (he was busy with a line of customers placing their orders) since he informed me earlier that manager would know best. I was told that the manager is rather busy with the orders, I had to wait a bit. He came over and was clearly not happy to be pulled away from what he was doing. He rushed me through my questions, not really helping me and the whole time I had a feeling he couldn’t wait to get rid of me. He said that he can’t tell me if they can make a cake for me, that the baker has to tell me. Ok….can I talk to the baker please? Oh, baker is not here. Ok…how do I get in touch with the baker? He blurted out an email address and left. I get that he was busy, but that is no way to treat a customer, especially not the manager. I was prepared to spend couple of hundred dollars if need be for this specialty cake, but instead, I will take my business elsewhere. I was so disappointed at the lack of customer service and do not plan on returning.
