We were a table of three foodie vegetarians, and though the menu did not offer many specific veg options, our server let us know the chef could easily accommodate vegetarians before we even had to ask. Two of us ordered the superb gnocchi dish, substituting roasted vegetables for crab. The hand-made gnocchi were impressively light and fresh and the accompanying medley of tomatoes, summer squash and various mushrooms tasted perfectly like the weekend's weather: Indian summer giving way to the first chilly days of fall. It could have been boring and bland, but clearly the chef made an effort to prepare something just as delicious as what the menu promised, minus the meat. Portions were perfect -- neither too small, nor too large. Cocktails, wine and desserts were also on point. The whole staff seemed like experienced professionals and we particularly enjoyed chatting with our very gracious waiter. The ambience was elegant but not stuffy, and evoked an intriguing sense of place through a stylish blend of historical architecture and well-curated contemporary landscape paintings. Coming from the DC area, we thought the bill was surprisingly inexpensive. All in all, a great value for a top-notch dining experience in Charlottesville.
Our service was average at best. One of our group said his entree was very good. My wife and I shared several dishes, and asked for our steak to be cooked medium-plus. It came out more rare than medium rare. When we showed our waitress, she simply shrugged and did not offer to cook it more. Very disappointing for the price point.
Everything (food, wine, service, ambiance) is outstanding and you will not be disappointed.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary at C&O last night and it was nothing short of amazing as always! They had our table all ready for us and presented us glasses of champagne upon seating us. They took note that we had spent our 1st anniversary there and accommodated our request to sit at the exact same table. Servers were super attentive even when every table was full on a Tuesday night! The food was perfection and we loved the wine selection as well! 10/10
Absolutely phenomenal experience at C&O in Charlottesville! The food was nothing short of excellent — every dish was crafted with care and full of flavor. The wait staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in. The candlelit ambiance added the perfect touch of romance and warmth to the evening. A truly memorable dining experience that's well worth the money.
Food and service were excellent from start to finish. We ordered three appetizers, two entrees and two desserts not a mediocre dish in the bunch. Scallop appetizer and duck confit main were amazing.
Once again, the C&O delivered a great experience. The core menu is embellished with daily specials. The food is well prepared. The service is attentive. Special requests were honored. It does not get better than this.
Wonderful food, great drinks. Service was excellent. Quality of food matched pricing. Would highly recommend.
Well done. Old standby. Never disappoints

Amazing from the start (house made bread + butter) to the very end (sticky toffee pudding). Our server went above and beyond in answering our questions and giving us recommendations.

Came here to celebrate my husband and I anniversary 🎊 I love the old house restaurant and vibe! The little fishes 🐟 from the aquarium at the bar were cute. But specially we loved the food. It was delicious 😋 I highly recommend Scallops to start your dinner.

What a cozy wonderful restaurant! We liked the atmosphere and the friendly staff, the food and wines are outstanding. We had scallops with capers and sweetbread with Pinot Noir from Willamette, a perfect match. Bavette Chinois steak excellent as well. Finally sticky Toffee with Madeira, to die for. 5 points!

Our first time at C&O, and it won't be our last! Everything was outstanding, especially the braised lamb.
Spent over $500 for 4 people.. I would expect top notch service for this price range. Seems we were forgotten multiple times. Took over a half hour between apps and entree (assuming our food was forgotten to be put in because all the tables around us that came in after us were on dessert when we were still waiting on entrees). Then the guy took over half of my mom’s $75 steak to the back to “box” and never brought it back. I’d go to ivy Inn or Duners over this place.Half the cost, way better service and you don’t have to be cat called by the homeless men at the bus station to get there.
